You know those big metal things that lift other big metal things? Cranes.

We are recruiting for a Northampton-based business that design and implement complex lifting solutions. An example of their work, every year they install the 20 metre Norwegian Christmas tree into Trafalgar Square. As you can imagine, that takes a great deal of planning and design.

They have a identified a requirement within their Technical team for a creative person to join. In an ideal world they'd love to find someone with Cranebee experience and from the lifting sector, but they appreciate that is a tough ask.

This role comes with full training and in a couple of years time you will be a self sufficient designer. There are so many pathways within this business, aslong as you posses a good attitude and work ethic you will have lots of opportunities to progress.
They are looking for someone that they can train and develop to become a CAD Technician. The more design related experience you have the better, but the essential criteria is that you must have a good attitude and be keen to get stuck in.

If you can tell your 2D from your 3D without needing a diagram, and know your way around AutoCAD, this would be a great head start.

You will be shadowing the Technical Manager who has nearly 30 years experience in the lifting industry. By the end of 2025 you will be able to manage small projects independently.

At heart they are a construction business and although they have a beautiful office, it is not a corporate environment. Expect a bit of friendly banter and the expectation that you put in a good days work.

If you have no formal design experience we would love to speak to you, but it would benefit your chances of being successful if you have some of these you can tick off:

  • You have some AutoCAD experience. (Even if it's just at home)
  • You're keen to learn about the lifting industry. (They'll explain the jargon, eventually.)
  • You can spot a mistake from a mile away.
  • You can communicate without resorting to motivational slogans.
  • You have a creative flair, and enjoy making things work.

The Details

  • Standard holiday allowance, 21 days plus bank holidays. (Enough time to avoid work.)
  • Pension, healthcare, life assurance.
  • Gym membership
  • Training and development.
