About the job:Today, precision medicine coupled with advanced diagnostics is taking over. However, those innovations in medicine come with an ever-increasing price tag driven by more expensive and complicated solutions making them less accessible unless we do something about it.Signatur Biosciences was established with the mission of making cutting-edge diagnostic tools accessible to more patients around the world. The startup developed a technology to profile complex molecular signatures in a single reaction using qPCR machines already in place in every biomedical lab around the world. Signatur Biosciences is a startup based in New Haven, Connecticut, and London, UK. This advertised position is in New Haven.We're worried about accessibility in precision diagnostics and are building a team of individuals who share our passion for solving this problem through close collaboration and a sense of urgency. We're building a different kind of company where employees think like owners, act with authority, and collaborate closely with one another.We are seeking a highly motivated and driven Lab Technician to join our team. In this role, under the direction of the Chief Scientist Officer, you will be responsible for conducting lab experiments using high-throughput liquid handlers and qPCR machines. You will work closely with a team of interdisciplinary scientists to develop and validate our diagnostics assays. If you are a self-starter with a passion for novel diagnostics development, we'd love to speak with you!Responsibilities:Perform experiments using high-throughput liquid handlers (i.DOT machines) and qPCR machines. Carrying out and optimizing RNA extraction protocols.Collaborate with and support the CSO and scientists to develop and optimize diagnostics under development.Handle instrumentation according to experiments and specifications. Orders supplies, equipment, and apparatus for laboratory experiments. Performs equipment maintenance.Documents each test result and maintain neat, complete, and accurate records.Qualifications:Bachelor of Science degree in a biology, molecular biology, synthetic biology, bioengineering, or similar1-3 years of hands-on biology laboratory experience (not including coursework)Very proficient with PCRExcellent sterile techniqueExperience with RNA extraction and quantificationExcellent focus and attention to detailExcellent notetaking and record keeping skillsExcellent communication skillsPassion for solving technical problemsNice-to-haves (but not required):Previous startup or industry experience preferredKnowledgeable in the field of molecular diagnosticsFamiliarity with a scientific programming language (Python, R, Matlab, or Julia) is preferred but not required.Compensation and benefits at Signatur Biosciences include:Base Salary + EquityGenerous paid time off policy that includes: 3 weeks, approximately 1 additional week during year end holidays, and 5 federal holidays of your choiceHealth Reimbursement AccountsPotential 401(k) retirement savings plan with employer match.Title and compensation will be based on level of experience with requested qualifications and may range from Lab Technician to Research Associate.
