Lead Applications Engineer required, the role is initially based in Greater Manchester with a relocation to Midlands mid next year. Requiring a degree in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry (or similar) and proven industrial experience in polymer processing

Salary: �40,000 - �60,000 (dependent on experience)

Term: Permanent

SRG are currently working with a global and innovative business who have been producing speciality chemicals and additives for a range of diverse industries. The business is now looking for a Lead Applications Engineer to join their Research & Development team in Greater Manchester on a permanent basis. This role will involve designing and conducting compounding and polymer testing through the use of lab equipment such as extruders, injection moulding. It will also involve new application development, new product development and generating data within targeted applications sectors.

Role Description

  • Design and conduct polymer/chemical tests and manage application projects.
  • Research and develop compounding application formulations to generate data as per customer requirements.
  • Carry out compounding and injection moulding and characterization of mechanical properties.
  • Write detailed reports on investigations and present data graphically using Excel to demonstrate the effects observed and conclusions drawn.
  • Document all data (raw data and reports) in a timely manner on access databases.
  • Develop innovative formulated solutions to customers' unmet needs.
  • Work with different sites for cross-functional projects.

Requirements

  • A degree in Synthetic Organic or Polymer Chemistry (or similar) - both master's and bachelor's degrees accepted
  • Proven industrial experience of application testing of polymers and plastic products
  • Expert technical competence with hands-on knowledge and experience in compounding plastics
  • Good organisation skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Able and willing to work independently
