The roles primary responsibility is to support the Core Engineering requirements for all military vehicles under PDS Core Contracts. The successful candidate will function as the Core Lead Engineer within the project team with responsibility for direct engagement with the customer to ensure the requirements of the contract are fulfilled across the Engineering portfolio.

​MORE INFO ABOUT THE ROLE

The work will entail being the Engineering point of contact for all core related activities which will consist of engagement with support to the customer base, including providing detailed responses to customer queries on the legacy vehicle fleet.
You will work closely with the Programme Manager as the engineering subject matter expert and first point of contact for all customer engineering-based requirements. This role will also involve working with the Principal Engineers, wider engineering team ILS and design teams as required to ensure all customer related queries are answered and submitted within the required timescales.
As part of this role, you will also be required to provide technical direction to sub-contracted subject matter experts in support of all engineering requirements that require additional support outside of NPA.
You will be responsible for supporting all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and maintaining the relevant documentation to ensure that a fully auditable trail from cradle to grave for all customer-based queries is maintained.
You will be part of the customer facing team able to articulate engineering concepts to engineers, project managers and other key internal and external stakeholders and lead on the engineering support provided under the core contract as part of these meetings. You will also act as the SME on any safety related meetings seeking support from appropriate departments as required to support the role of Engineering Authority.

MAIN JOB DUTIES

1. Engineering lead on all PDS Core Contracts.
2. Support the Core programme manager in maintaining all contract KPIs in support of the customer requirements and NPA business objectives.
3. Maintain all NPA/customer deliverable metrics and provide a monthly and quarterly report detailing these metrics.
4. Present these metrics to the customer at the monthly project meetings and provide an overview of current engineering status.
5. Provide support as required to any Non Core Tasking (NCT) work, either requested by Engineering Leads or Project Managers, with the agreement of the Core Program Manager.
6. PDS Core point of contact for Safety and Environmental Panels and Emergency Safety and Environmental Panels (SEP and eSEP) and liaise with the Principal Engineers as required to support these requirements.
7. Manage, record and distribute all Core Safety and Engineering Notices received from the customer.
8. Be the point of contact for all PAR/TQNs and agree with the relevant department heads course of action to answer each PAR/TQN.
9. Maintain the NPA Database for relevant PDS Contract to ensure all PAR/TQN submission and responses are recorded for future reporting metrics.
10. Be the engineering point of contact for any change requests for Core and Spares.
11. Generation of a range of professional-standard engineering specifications, presentations and reports detaining technical work undertaken coupled with regular progress reporting to stakeholders.

EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL
1. Strong Engineering background with ability to communicate with external customers.
2. Knowledge and understanding of design processes.
3. Ability to work to scheduled delivery deadlines, whilst ensuring that all quality and technical outputs are maintained.
4. Experience in mechanical and/or electro-mechanical platform system architecture.
5. Understanding of engineering drawings and design standards, ideally to automotive / defence standards.
6. Familiarity with configuration control and change management.
7. Experience in the validation and verification of product including environmental qualification.
8. Experience in compiling Design FMEAs.
9. Development of complex customer technical documentation.
10. Experience of robust engineering practices including technical risk management.
11. Ability to communicate effectively on a technical level with both peer and management groups.
12. Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and use of databases.
13. Production of technical documentation to respond back to customer PAR/TQNs.
14. Good team working skills, within multiple discipline teams while working on the same outputs.
15. Experience of Army Equipment Support Publication (AESPs).
16. Ability to work with Sub-Contractors when required to support PAR/TQN responses within contract timescales.
