Job DescriptionEssential Responsibilities:The On-Site Services Specialist will be responsible for:Performing protection system validation and Factory Acceptance Test (FAT).Conducting commissioning of substation protection systems (protection IEDs, auxiliary relays, communication tests, and coordinating with control engineers for signal testing) at customer sites onshore and offshore.Leading maintenance services with customers, including first-line fault diagnostics of protection systems installed at customer substations onshore and offshore.Providing first-line telephonic support during out-of-office hours, weekends, and bank holidays while on call. If necessary, visiting customer substations onshore and offshore to resolve faults.Offering technical instruction and assistance to customer representatives regarding installation, operation, repair, and maintenance at customer sites. Ensuring comprehensive reports are generated for the end-customer.Supporting protection system engineering tasks including, but not limited to, setting calculations, protection relay configuration, communication protocol-related configuration modifications, and configuring and testing the protection system configuration on mirror platforms.Managing fault reports and customer complaints in line with defined procedures.Coordinating with the Centre of Excellence (CoE) and other teams for products and systems obsolescence management.Assisting with internal and external training activities, including classroom and commissioning-based training.Continuously gaining knowledge of new products and systems, and expanding technical knowledge and expertise in currently recognized industry standards for engineering.Providing weekly timesheets and monthly reports detailing the status of all work undertaken by the engineer and any other items relating to the Services Department.Maintaining knowledge of the reporting system for timely and accurate input of field information.Communicating project commissioning schedule details, milestones, site requirements, quality issues, and tools/equipment requirements to the appropriate project and service manager.Supporting the engineering, sales, and commercial/tendering teams with service return of experience.Obtaining and maintaining Customer Competent Person Authorization, ensuring all relevant safety documentation and site competency certificates are up to date, and informing the services leader of impending renewals.Applying the company’s health and safety responsibilities to work at site and on the platform, ensuring RAMS are produced and reviewed internally and externally.Adhering to and promoting the company's quality, environmental health, and safety policies.Maintaining an excellent safety mindset to ensure work meets technical requirements within safety standards.Providing, auditing, and implementing quality control requirements for on-site activities. Assisting the company in maintaining quality focus, striving for continuous improvement, addressing customer dissatisfaction/satisfaction issues, and taking corrective action when deviations from required standards are identified.Job Requirements:Ability to travel to customer sites locally and globally (approximately 160 days/year).Valid driver’s license.Proficiency in English. Other languages valued (Spanish, French, Italian, and/or Portuguese).Experience in substation protection systems, including technical support, testing, maintenance, and commissioning in transmission, distribution, industrial, and power plant environments.Experience with control systems (LV, MV, and HV).Strong experience in substation protection systems, with knowledge of MiCOM, Universal Relay (UR), Multilin, and legacy products preferred.Knowledge of communication protocols such as IEC61850, DNP3, and MODBUS.Experience with test equipment like Omicron CMC series and related accessories.Proven knowledge of protection relays and substation automation solutions preferred.Desired Characteristics:Minimum of a BSc in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) coupled with four to five years of project/service-related experience.Demonstrated experience as a protection systems commissioning engineer in substations ranging from 11kV to 400kV.Knowledge of automation, electrical control systems, and SCADA/DCS systems.Excellent knowledge of protection relays.Valued knowledge of networking, process bus testing environments, and communication protocols.Essential experience in the detailed design of electrical protection systems.Ability to perform functional testing of protection panels.Experience in Factory Acceptance Testing and on-site commissioning of protection systems.Strong technical skills in testing and commissioning protection systems, including functional testing, system analysis, integration and testing of third-party protection relays, and signal testing with protection relays on IEC61850.Experience with protection systems for transmission, distribution, generator, motor, and rail applications.Experience with busbar protection systems for centralized and distributed applications.Ability to organize, prioritize, and achieve milestones and deliverables.Willingness to work extended hours and weekends.Sound judgment, ability to stay levelheaded under pressure, and ability to think on your feet.High energy, positive individual with a passion for service challenges.Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong customer focus and ability to cooperate with different departments.Rigorous team-working approach with high self-motivation, flexibility, and a self-learning attitude.Must be a motivator, self-starter, and dedicated team player with a sense of urgency and an ability to work to tight deadlines.Basic first aid skills and offshore certification preferred but not essential.
