Adept is collaborating with a Sheffield-based manufacturing company renowned for creating and supplying premium orthopaedic products of the highest quality and precision. We're looking for a talented Lead Production Engineer to join our client's team!
The Role:
Reporting to the Quality Control & Process Engineering Manager, the Lead Production Engineer will be responsible for providing frontline support for all manufacturing processes. This includes CNC machining & programming (CAD/CAM), special process support in areas such as cleaning, degreasing, polishing, coating, designing jigs & fixtures, tooling development, production documentation, custom manufacturing, and capital projects. The role also involves ensuring all validations IQ, OQ, and PQ, Engineering Studies, documentation, and records meet the Quality Management System (QMS) ISO13485 compliance requirements for a manufacturer of medical devices. You will work closely with process engineering, regulatory, quality, purchasing, and new product development teams.
Role Responsibilities:

  • Produce technical reports to support process changes.
  • Manage the daily workload of the Manufacturing Support Engineer and Production Engineer, conduct performance reviews, and address training needs.
  • Utilize statistical data analysis, statistical process control, Six Sigma project methodology, and lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Adhere to the company's Change Control procedure.
  • Design and implement Experiments (DOE).
  • Create work instructions, routings, BOMs, SOPs, and transition processes to online staff.
  • Conduct time and motion studies for manufacturing processes.
  • Oversee project management tasks, including producing Gantt charts and providing accurate project timing plans.
  • Collaborate with Process & CI Engineers to specify, commission, and validate capital equipment.
  • Analyse factory flow and lean layouts to optimize the use of people and equipment.
  • Identify and assess new technological developments in machinery, software, cutting tools, materials, and processes to minimize process set-up times and design jigs, fixtures, and special tooling.


Person Specifications

  • Degree, HND, or HNC in an Engineering discipline.
  • Team player with strong collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in lean/continuous improvement.
  • Competent CAD-CAM-Vericut user with SolidWorks drafting experience, able to produce and amend engineering drawings.
  • Esprit CAM experience is advantageous.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks and capable of producing engineering drawings.
  • Good understanding of measurement techniques and equipment - Gauge R&R - MSA.
  • Proficient in Microsoft products.
  • Methodical thinker with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with data analysis, preferably Minitab.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Excellent planning and time management abilities.
  • Effective personal performance monitoring against deadlines and milestones.
  • Strong communicator.
