An exciting opportunity has opened for a Lead Production Engineer to join a successful manufacturing company based in Whitstable, Kent. This role offers a competitive salary of around £60,000 plus good benefits and the chance to lead a dynamic team responsible for Production Engineering. The growing team identify and deliver improvements to production process and work closely with the design team and suppliers to ensure the company products remain one of the best in their sector.

Your Key Responsibilities in this Lead Production Engineer job

  • Lead the production engineer team.
  • Assist in manufacturing and production improvements. To increase quality, reduce cost and maximise efficiency.
  • Support the design team to ensure the manufacturability of designs. Making recommendations for improvement.,
  • Manage Statistical Process Control (SPC) process and the utilise data for the formulation of Engineering, production and design improvements.
  • Monitoring of the production flow and identifying productivity initiatives.
  • Time and motion studies and implement identified improvements.
  • Implement productivity improvement initiatives
  • in conjunction with the production and operations team, identify and implement production optimisation solutions.
  • Develop and maintain SOP to ensure its accuracy and effectiveness, both with in-house and 3rd part supplier manufacturing.
  • Design and implement visual manufacturing and production aides.
  • Have a good understanding of the use of jigs and fixtures in manufacturing and make recommendations for improving tooling.
  • Support continuous improvements and lean culture across the business unit.
  • Support KPI tracking and other management tools
  • Drive / support strategic cross-function initiatives with a strong focus on collaboration with Design

About you and your experience in production engineering

With experience in production engineering, you will be versatile in manufacturing techniques. For example, you will have had previous experience working in a production environment that utilise jig and fixtures. Knowledge of geometrical tolerance would also be important to achieve success in this role.

Along with this technical expertise you will be ready to successfully lead teams across multiple manufacturing engineering disciplines, demonstrating solid people leadership. You may be a working a Production Engineer currently and be ready for your first job in management. Or you maybe currently working as a supervisor or manager and wanting a career change.
