Mechanical Engineer / Surveyor
Cambridge City Council
Contract: 6 months | Location: Cambridge & Remote
Pay: Negotiable (Per Day)


Cambridge City Council is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer / Surveyor to join our Asset Management team for a minimum 6-month contract. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional to play a pivotal role in managing and supervising mechanical services across council properties, contributing to key improvement programmes and individual projects.

Key Responsibilities:
·Oversee the installation and upgrading of mechanical services in council properties, ensuring full compliance with regulations.
·Manage contractors, inspecting works, and ensuring all projects meet high standards of safety and quality.
·Prepare and deliver annual mechanical services programmes, including budgeting and specifications.
·Provide technical advice and specialist mechanical engineering services in support of building works and projects.
·Maintain accurate records of all mechanical works, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, British Standards, and Council policies.
·Identify and deliver energy efficiency and carbon reduction projects across the asset portfolio.
·Develop and maintain the mechanical services asset register.

About You:
To succeed in this role, you will have:
·Proven experience in mechanical services engineering, particularly in installation, maintenance, and supervision.
·A strong understanding of statutory compliance, building regulations, and health and safety standards.
·Excellent project management and contractor management skills.
·The ability to produce clear, concise reports and maintain detailed records.
·Experience managing budgets and delivering work within agreed deadlines.
·A Level 5 qualification in mechanical engineering or a related discipline (or working towards a professional qualification in engineering or facilities management).

Desirable Skills:
·Previous experience working within a local authority or housing association.
·Knowledge of renewable energy installations and systems like LOLER, MVHR, HIU, and more.
·Corporate membership of a recognised institute and an IOSH Managing Safety Certificate.
