Job Title: Machine Shop Technician
Location: Keighley
Metalis are currently in partnership with a precision engineering company. Looking to recruit a Machine Shop Technician.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be highly involved in contributing to the entire manufacturing process, from engineering design, through machining to delivery.
  • Programming, setting, proving-out and operating CNC machines in turning, grinding, metrology, flexible machining centre, heavy machining, heavy grinding.
  • Producing complex components according to requirements.
  • Working and measuring to very tight tolerances (within several Micron range).
  • Working from and understanding engineering drawings and computer-generated models.
  • Applying knowledge of materials and machining methods.
  • Work with minimal supervision and plan workload effectively to achieve targets and KPIs.
  • Programming, prove-out and editing of CNC Programmes including use of software tools such as Vericut and Delcam.
  • Jig and Tool design.
  • Understand, and work at all times in line with Fives Values and Directives; specifically following the highest standards of health and safety.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested.
Candidate requirments:
  • Operating 5-axis and multi-pallet machine tools using a Siemens 840D control.
  • NC Programming of components using Feature Cam programming software.
  • The production of both cubic and cylindrical components ranging in size from 10kg to 14 tonnes.
  • Working with a range of materials but generally cast irons, steels, and bronze alloys.
  • Manufacturing components to achieve critical geometrical tolerancing and ensuring product conformity.
  • Attention to Detail.
  • Reliability and Punctuality: Consistent attendance and timely completion of tasks.
  • Manual Dexterity: Skilful use of hands and tools for intricate tasks.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during machining processes.
  • Teamwork: Collaboration with colleagues to achieve common goals and maintain workflow.
  • Patience and Persistence: Ability to work through repetitive tasks and complex problems without frustration.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to learn new techniques and adapt to new machines or processes.
  • Strong Communication: Clear and effective communication with team members and supervisors.
  • Organisation: Keeping workspaces tidy and tools properly maintained.
  • Flexibility to work to the needs of the business, including working different shift patterns and overtime as and when required.
  • A mindset that places process optimisation, asset utilisation, and component lead time at the forefront.
  • Able to both recognise and embrace a flexible approach, ensuring that business commitments are fulfilled, and customer expectations are both maintained and surpassed.
  • A number of years' experience in operating precision CNC machinery before progressing to part-programming using modern day software.
  • Ability to work alone or part of a team.
  • Able to manage own time and meet tight deadlines.
