Maintenance Engineer

Salary £42,000 days

Hours:                                  45 hours per week between 8 - 5pm Mon to Fri (with a shared call out rota for nights and weekends every other week)

My client runs a small flour mill based close to Stonehouse in Gloucestershire. They are looking for a  Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer with an electrical bias, to join a small team at the mill. You will be based predominantly at the site near Stonehouse but will also be responsible another older mill close by.   The role exists to carry out planned and unplanned engineering maintenance and repair, to significantly improve and ensure maximum performance and reliability of all plant and equipment across our Flour Mills.  This day shift role (with 24/7 call out duties every other week) requires the successful candidate to work in an industrial food manufacturing environment as part of a small team of highly skilled engineers, providing the routine maintenance and breakdown cover required to deliver production availability 24/7.

Key Responsibilities


  • To work in co-operation with the production team and OEM’s/Technical Support to diagnose faults and repair and maintain equipment in a timely fashion.  You will be responsible for the planned and unplanned maintenance and repair of all Flour Mills and bag packing machines to ensure they are operating efficiently, safely and providing optimum performance
  • Respond quickly to production needs to maximise up time according to given priorities
  • Contact OEM's and other suppliers for technical support as and when required and expedite parts when not available on site.  You will be responsible for the control of the site engineering spares policy in conjunction with the engineering teams / contractors.
  • To be aware of and to implement all Company and Site Process and Engineering Standards, including contributing to the development and implementation of site engineering strategy
  • Complete all necessary documentation ensuring that it is kept accurate and is audit ready
  • Ensure the completion of the PPM tasks and formulate improved maintenance practices
  • To ensure all corrective maintenance requirements are carried out in a timely and efficient manner to minimise downtime.  Communication and tracking of progress to the relevant Senior Management is essential
  • Actively champion the improvement, compliance and awareness of Health and Safety, Environmental and Hygiene standards.
  • Contribute to training requirements and consider training plans to upskill production staff with basic maintenance skills.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal requirements including Health and Safety, Environmental, Hygiene, Food Safety, HACCP , BRC.

Technical Skills and Experience Required


  • A Core Electrical / Mechanical Engineering qualification from an apprenticeship, registered college or university
  • Strong demonstrated experience in electrical and mechanical fault finding
  • P.C. Skills (Desirable but not essential)
  • Knowledge of planned maintenance systems (Desirable but not essential)
