Are you an experienced Breast Screening Radiographer looking for a new opportunity with the National Breast Screening Programme?
We are currently recruiting for a Mammographer to join our Breast Screening team based at the Jarvis Centre in Guildford, Surrey.
Breast screening the women of Surrey and NE Hants is carried out on a fleet of 5 mobile vans with additional capacity at Jarvis Centre.
Assessment Clinics, held at the Jarvis Centre, are staffed by a dedicated multi-disciplinary team of Consultant Radiologists, Associate Breast Clinicians, Advanced Practitioners, Mammographers, Assistant Practitioners and clinical and administration staff following the NHSBSP principles of triple assessment – mammography/ultrasound, clinical examination and needle biopsy).
What does being an InHealth Mammographer involve?
This is a full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week on a local rota across Monday – Friday.
As a Mammographer at InHealth, you will provide a high-quality imaging service to all users of the service and screen women for breast cancer by mammography. You will participate in assessment clinics including stereotactic biopsies and participate in the support of development of assistant practitioners. 
This role offers significant development opportunities as you will be expected to take on some additional managerial duties and deputise for the Superintendent Radiographer when appropriate.
Allocated time for these duties will be provided.
What you are responsible for:
  • To take high quality mammograms
  • To participate in the unit’s Quality Assurance Programme and take remedial action when necessary
  • To indirectly supervise and mentor Assistant Practitioners in the workplace.
  • To be competent at obtaining additional views of the breast at Assessment clinics
  • To prepare and assist in biopsy procedures including targeting for stereotactic examinations
  • To take part in a rota to cover work on mobile screening sites
  • To ensure sufficient supplies are available at mobile sites and arrange transportation if necessary.
  • To be competent to use all clinical equipment used by the Service
  • To keep up to date with current trends and techniques in mammography and thus be sufficiently well informed to answer queries on breast health and screening.
  • To be able to deal with nervous or anxious clients
  • To record clinical observations as part of the screening process
  • To be confident and professional when positioning women who are naked from the waist up
  • To be able to enter all quality assurance data on the computer
  • To deal with equipment malfunction and know when to suspend its use
  • To maintain a current CPD portfolio
  • To abide by the Ionising Radiation Regulations
  • To identify films suitable for teaching purposes
What skills and experience will you need to apply?
  • BSc in Radiography
  • PG Cert in Mammography
  • HCPC registration
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively, using a variety of methods bearing in mind the diverse nature of the clients who attend breast screening
  • Be able to work co-operatively, across organisational boundaries, cultures and diversity to achieve shared goals for the breast screening service and for the organisation
  • Maintain and demonstrate the appropriate and necessary technical knowledge for breast imaging and continue to refine relevant analytical/technical skills as well as professional judgement.

For eligible* roles (which includes this one), we offer an additional payment of £10 per hour, up to a maximum of £50 per day, for each weekend day worked. This is paid monthly in arrears.

*This includes colleagues delivering face to face patient care in the Targeted Lung Health Check mobile units, Endoscopy, AAA Screening, Breast Screening, PET-CT, Audiology, Mobiles, Imaging Centres and CDC’s. Note that this payment is not applicable to clinical staff working within the Echocardiography division, or Diabetic Eye Screening. The Weekend Payment does not apply to those on a flexible working agreement and part time workers that have requested to work weekend hours/days as part of their working agreement. The Weekend Payment also doesn’t apply to those who are working remotely or carrying out administrative work from home.
