The Market Risk team offers an independent perspective on the company's market risk exposure for all physical and financial energy trading activities. The team is responsible for designing risk methodologies, implementing a robust risk control framework, and providing both quantitative and qualitative market risk analysis and risk control solutions. Working closely with other Middle Office functions, the team supports global commercial activities with a comprehensive platform of systems, processes, and controls.This role has a global remit, covering all geographies where the company trades and encompassing all energy commodity market risks. The position is accountable for the overall direction of the market risk function and plays a pivotal role in shaping the company's risk culture. Responsibilities include coordinating company-wide risk policies, enforcing their application to market risk, and reporting on current market risk levels.Key responsibilities include managing a global team, with staff based in Singapore and London, and interfacing on market risk matters with shareholder risk functions, internal and external audits, and commercial teams. The role requires close collaboration with Credit Risk, Internal Audit, and Product Control teams to maintain a strong control culture. As part of the Middle Office leadership team, a strong team spirit and collaboration are expected.Qualifications and Experience:Extensive experience in energy market risk management within an investment bank or energy trading company.Detailed knowledge of global energy commodity markets and derivatives products.In-depth understanding of risk metrics across market and liquidity risk.Proven track record of risk control leadership in design, implementation, and organizational influence.Experience in project and people management.At least 10 years of professional experience.Technical Requirements:In-depth knowledge of risk management processes within a commodity trading environment.Expert knowledge of KRIs relevant to energy commodity markets.Strong mathematical and analytical skills, including a good understanding of statistics.Proficient with Microsoft Office products, VBA, SQL, Matlab, Python, and Alteryx preferred.Person Specification:Attention to detail with a strong focus on information accuracy.Proven leadership and motivational skills.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of conveying complex technical information accessibly.Ability to communicate and motivate across borders, cultures, and working environments (office/virtual).Strong team spirit and motivation, able to foster a high-performance working culture.Ability to influence and advise senior management across functions.Capability to manage a time-constrained environment with often conflicting pressures.Key Role Responsibilities:Support the Senior Manager Market Risk in managing and leading the Market Risk team across Singapore and London offices, ensuring global cohesion and operational delivery standards.Provide visibility of market and operational risks to the Executive team and senior trading management through metrics, exception reports, and timely issue escalation.Develop market and operational risk methodologies and strategies to ensure globally consistent standards, policies, and practices.Provide technical leadership to ensure accurate risk identification, measurement, and control process design for the company's portfolio.Prepare and coordinate Global Risk Committees with the Senior Market Manager, appraising them on key market risks.Evaluate and assess new products, trading strategies, and business activities for their impact on market risk and operations.Coordinate the NBC process and structured due diligence around new/material business, providing practical challenges to new activities and comprehensive due diligence.Report market risks and KRIs to stakeholders accurately and promptly.Investigate significant breaches and incidents with the support of the Internal Control and Compliance team, flagging potential breaches of Risk Mandate, Risk Management Procedures, and Business Transaction Procedures.Implement control platform improvements to strengthen processes and operational performance, preventing inaccuracies and mistakes.Lead the development and implementation of valuation and risk quantification systems, validating front office valuation models used to define P&L and risk positions.Foster a culture of risk awareness and insight within the team and the company, encouraging and expecting a speak-up culture.This role requires someone to be within their Central London based office 3x a week and is coming in between £100,000 - £110,000 depending on experience.
