Mechanical Design Engineer - Hybrid remote in Portsmouth HQ - up to £51k DOE + BenefitsYou MUST be a British national with no dual nationality or citizenship to be considered for this role due to the level of clearance required for the role.A global Defence client with HQ’s around the U.K are looking to bring onboard either a Security cleared or willing to be security cleared Mechanical Design Engineer to join the team based either in Manchester, Bristol, Glasgow, Portsmouth, Frimley or Weymouth. Although the base location for this opportunity will be mentioned above, the role is hybrid remote 5-6 times a month in the local HQ.The successful candidate will be joining a well established Engineering Team that are made up of a team of multi-disciplinary Engineers and Data Scientists who estimate, collate and present mass properties data for a number of multi-billion-pound submarine programmes, so the successful candidate must have a strong background and commercial experience in Mechanical Design, ideally from clients working in the Safety critical industry.What you’ll be doing:Collating mass property data for equipment and systems to deliver weight and centroid control on multi billion-pound submarine programmesSupport the Mass Properties Lead to aggregate weight and centroid reports and present the status to the Chief Naval ArchitectCollaborate with system design engineers to accurate estimate mass, centroid and design maturity of multiple mechanical and electronic systemsMaintain a comprehensive database of parts mass propertiesProvide input to and lead weight saving strategies and maintain the list of weight risk and opportunities for each discipline areaInterrogate CAD models to determine estimates for mass properties with associated uncertaintiesUtilise statistical analysis to provide a whole picture of weight risk and opportunity to senior leaders, stakeholders and customersEssential key skills:Strong background in Mechanical DesignCAD - Siemens NX ideallyIdeally working in a safety critical environment (Aerospace/Nuclear ect)Qualified in STEM subject (Ideally Mechanical Engineering)Ability to work independently and as part of a teamAny experience with Mass Properties or Weights engineering would be an advantage but not essential for the roleSynergize Consulting is committed to equality and diversity in our workplace.
