Job Title: Mechanical Mate (Construction-Based)]
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Mechanical Mate to assist in construction-based mechanical tasks. The role involves working under the supervision of mechanical engineers and supervisors to install, maintain, and repair mechanical systems and components in construction projects. You will support the assembly of mechanical equipment, installation of piping, and other critical tasks that ensure the success of the project. Safety, precision, and teamwork are essential in this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist mechanical engineers and tradespeople with the installation and maintenance of mechanical systems and equipment.
- Assemble, install, and align mechanical components and systems, including pumps, motors, valves, piping, and HVAC systems.
- Prepare and stage materials, tools, and equipment for mechanical tasks.
- Conduct routine maintenance and basic repairs under supervision.
- Support the setup and breakdown of machinery and mechanical equipment on-site.
- Work with various types of piping systems (e.g., steel, copper, PVC) and assist in welding, cutting, and threading pipes.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders to assist with installations.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, following safe work practices at all times.
- Conduct quality checks to ensure proper installation and system functionality.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other construction personnel to complete tasks efficiently.
- Keep the work area clean and organized, disposing of waste and hazardous materials properly.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the mechanical supervisor.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous experience as a mechanical mate or related mechanical work in construction preferred.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and equipment commonly used in construction projects.
- Familiarity with mechanical tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools, and welding tools.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Physically fit and able to work in demanding construction environments (lifting, bending, standing for extended periods).
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations in construction.
