78974 - Occupational Health & Safety Manager This Occupational Health & Safety Manager will report to the Head of Health and Safety and will work within HSS & Connections Health and Safety Team based in our London office. You will be a permanent employee.You will attract a 70,000 salary + car/allowance and a bonus of 10%.Close Date: 14/07/2024We also provide the following additional benefitsAnnual LeavePersonal Pension Plan – Personal contribution rates of 4% or 5% (UK Power Networks will make a corresponding contribution of 8% or 10%)Tenancy Loan Deposit schemeTax efficient benefits: cycle to work schemeSeason ticket loanOccupational Health supportSwitched On – scheme providing discount on hundreds of retailers products.Discounted access to sports and social clubsEmployee Assistance Programme.Role PurposeThe post holder manages occupational safety risks across UKPN ensuring that we have fit for purpose safety policies, procedures and manuals in a way that manages risk enabling us to achieve our 'beyond zero' safety vision and lead a step change improvement in our journey from 'Good to Great' safety performance.You will assist Senior Management Teams, colleagues, and contractors across the business to make the right choices when managing Health and Safety (H&S) risks within the business.Job DimensionsYou will contribute to the management of all our occupational safety risks and appropriate controls in the occupational/areas, ensuring they addressed throughout the organisation. This will comprise ensure that our whole suite of occupational safety policies, procedures and manuals are following best practice and also ensuring the business implements them in a way that manages risks.You will manage a team of Health & Safety Advisors.The team will also provide '3rd line of defence' advice to all departments for all occupational safety related matters. The team is essentially the authority on occupational safety compliance in UK Power Networks.Core Principle AccountabilitiesWorking with the Head of H&S to deliver management of all our occupational safety related risks and appropriate controls.Identify best practice in the field of Occupational Safety, liaising with in-business Health and Safety teams to ensure safety related procedures are implemented.Monitor legislative changes, learning from incidents and wider business management changes for safety related impacts amending our processes with full business support.Liaison with important partner groups (e.g. HSE, regulators, Trade Unions Energy Networks Association) and forums (e.g. SHE Steering Committee, CHSEC and Major Incidents Review Panel)Attendance and participation on relevant Health and Safety committees and major investigation review panelsSupport senior management with Health & Safety investigations.Support Energy Networks Association working groups where required.Maintenance, development and publication of all occupational safety related policies, procedures and manuals.Contributor to selection and approval of tools and equipment.Selection, development, retention and management of the team of Health & Safety Advisors.Support audit internally and externally, across the business.Contribute to development of and implementation of wider Company HSS programmes and initiatives as necessary;Nature and ScopeThe Occupational Safety manager role is critical in ensuring that we manage all our important Health and Safety risks to deliver 'Good to Great' performance. The main function of the post holder's team is to set the HSS policy for the Business and to provide a lead to achieve coordinated HSS improvement activity across the business.You and the team will have a major input into the H&S planning process. You will also take into account the implementation requirements of new and revised procedures jointly with all directorates.You will manage the budget of the team and any supporting processes. As part of the management team, you will be present at meetings where strategic decisions are made. In this respect the post holder is expected to attend and support various Forums, Committees and Management Team meetings.You will also have an important interface with the central H&S team and will be the principal conduit for information between the Directorate and the central team.Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and ExperienceThe academic knowledge requirements of this job equate to a degree or equivalent.
