The Role
As a member of a small in-house nurse-led occupational health team, you will carry out health assessment and surveillance to our employees and external contractors who work on our sites. You will screen for pre-employment purposes, monitor and promote health, demonstrating your skills to work independently as well as within the team.
With a very good understanding of both workplace health issues, your ability to advise on these at all levels of the organisation will prove your passion for OH and professional communication ability. Your autonomous decisions will direct further employee needs.
You will have strong administration skills that allow you to arrange and prepare for our Occupational Health Physician and Physiotherapy clinics and liaise with other health care professionals outside of Liberty Speciality Steels.
Though based at Stocksbridge, there is requirement to work, at times, in our other sites, presently Rotherham, Wednesbury and Bolton. You will be expected to cover for colleagues annual leave, CPD and other approved absences.
You will be employed by Liberty Specialty Steel to attend work 21.75 hours a week over a three-day period. Days of attendance will be Monday Wednesday with Wednesday alongside your colleague. A lunch break of 45-minutes is allocated.
Periods of authorised professional development will be classified as being at work for the purpose of salary.
Responsibilities and duties (not exclusive) are to:
Work to meet objectives of the department, Liberty Speciality Steel and external clients.
Provide a quality service, recommending improvements where considered needed.
Practise high standards of client care.
Be responsible for day-to-day activity within the department.
Carry out employee health surveillance and monitoring, vaccination and phlebotomy.
Update and maintain the occupational health recording system.
Work with OH Admin to arrange and manage Occupational Health Physician clinics.
Work with the in-house Physiotherapist in clinic arrangements.
Maintain effective communication with colleagues in the multi-disciplinary team, managers, clients and external agencies to ensure seamless service delivery.
Act as a representative of the department as business and/or professional needs require.
Maintain client confidentiality, working at all times within the framework of Data Protection requirements.
Provide occasional emergency first aid as needed to the local workforce.
Demonstrate IT skills that ensures relevant systems are updated with required information.
Be responsible for the safe use, maintenance and cleaning of equipment and work areas.
Be responsible for maintaining stock levels of consumable items.
Work within the scope of the NMC Professional Practice and Code of Conduct in continuation of nursing practice by demonstrating research, reflection and best practice.
Work independently yet, as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
Act in accordance with local policies and procedures laid down by the department, Liberty Speciality Steels and external clients.
The postholder may be required from time to time to perform other Occupational Health associated duties assigned by the Head of Service /Senior nurse.
