The Company



Inside Construction have been appointed to recruit an Operations Delivery Manager for a growing nationwide civils and infrastructure contractor who specialise in the utilities power sector. They offer cable laying, multi utilities, surfacing, traffic management and recycling services throughout the UK. Their head office is based in the northwest and the company employs over 50 staff and have a growing turnover. They are renowned for their excellent delivery of utility projects, both planned and reactive and this opportunity is to lead and manage the Scottish business unit.





The role



Reporting into the Head of Operational Delivery you will lead and manage the Scottish Business Unit, leading a team and taking full P&L responsibility. You will work in close co-operation with all clients to deliver the Framework objectives. Your focus will be to meet the business goals on safety, compliance, customer service, environmental, commercial and profitability.



Key Responsibilities




  • Actively promote and enforce the company safety culture and standards close collaboration with H&S Manager.

  • To have full understanding of workload/projects/ contracts

  • Manage team of experienced Project Managers – set targets, hold to account, and review periodically to ensure they remain on track for week, month, year goals are achieved.

  • Ensure sufficient resources to programmes – Planned & Reactive works.

  • Manage and monitor projects and teams ensuring key milestones achieved.

  • Ensure health and safety regulations are followed.

  • Drive daily performance.

  • Client liaison and management. Working with the Business Director to maximise the relationship & build for future.

  • Ensure strong budget control including change management.

  • Maintain records and ensure that they are on the WMS – maximising usage of this. Aurora.

  • Report on progress & performance weekly.

  • Supporting all functions of the business to work together effectively.

  • Contral Data returns, enabling continuous cashflow.

  • Employ a Right First-Time approach – Quality improvements & reduced cost.

  • Communicate changes to relevant parties.

  • Carry out any other duties appropriate to this post.

  • Communicate with other deptartments i.e. Planning – to ensure a smooth cradle to grave delivery.

  • Meet with clients periodically to review performance – selling company qualities on customer service, safety, outputs, environment.

  • Maximising internal trading with ORS, OTM.

  • Ensuring that fleet operational capabilities are aligned to business requirements and enable business to respond with agility to client expectations and opportunities.

  • Be a good decision maker allowing work to continue / progress without hold ups.

  • Provide effective, positive, and trusted leadership to the business Unit.

  • Empower and motivate your teams to perform at their best by setting, directing and effectively communicating the vision for Opus.

  • Leading by example in acting with integrity and upholding the highest professional standards of quality, performance, and productivity.

  • Oversee and maintain adequate succession and contingency plans for key leadership positions within your teams.

  • Responsible for the development of your direct reports.

  • Deliver stand downs, Toolbox talks to entire workforce – delivering key business messages





The person



This opportunity would suit an experienced Operations/Delivery Manager (10 years +) who understands the utilities sector – particularly within the power sector. The ideal candidate will come from a utilities contracting background and will be comfortable leading both commercial and operational teams. Our client is looking for someone who is flexible and committed to join this contractor on their journey to grow and become even stronger in the market. The role requires strong leadership skills and commercial acumen. Ideal applicants will live local to Edinburgh.
