Operations Manager – Energy from Waste

MC Technical Recruitment are currently recruiting for an Operations Manager to join an energy from waste power station in Bristol near Avonmouth. The site generates over 300GWh of electricity per year, this is enough to power approximately 84,000 homes.

The Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring the site is operating efficiently and effectively as possible whilst making sure environmental compliance is maintained at all times.

As the Operations Manager you will be responsible for:

• Managing the Operations Department consisting of Shift Team Leaders, Plant Operators and Outside Operators
• Work closely with the HSEQ Manager to ensure all staff members are fully aware of site policies and procedures
• Oversee the performance of the plant and report back to the relevant managers and stakeholders
• Ensure the site is always operating within the constraints of the site environmental permit
• Liaise with external bodies such as the EA and national grid
• Undertake staff appraisals, reviews and provide coaching and guidance to all operations staff
• Deputise for the Plant Manager during holidays and periods of absence

To be considered for this role you should have:

• Experience at Shift Team Leader or Operations Manager role or similar in the power generation sector. This could be energy from waste, biomass, coal, CCGT etc
• A relevant qualification such as HNC/ONC/BTEC level in an engineering discipline e.g. mechanical, electrical, chemical etc
• Strong operational and commercial understanding and awareness
• Legislative knowledge within the waste / EFW industry
• Ideally some financial experience managing budgets
• Ideally a NEBOSH or IOSH qualification
