Salary: �23,108 to �32,146 / �11.73 to �16.31 per hour PAYE
Clearance: BPSS Security Clearance (all candidates will need to go through this)
Job Description
Vacancies have arisen for Operators to support the ongoing programme of work within the Reactors project areas, specifically at DFR Breeder and PFR. The purpose of the post is to decommission the site safely. The job holder will provide support to processes that are relied on for the safe decommissioning of the site.
Main Responsibilities:
* Operate ancillary equipment such as cranes, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms, LGVs and fork lift trucks
* Undertake operational monitoring
* Carry out routine plant, fire and emergency checks identifying unusual trends and system/component failures and assist in its resolution
* Prepare radiation/contaminated controlled work areas including radiological containments as necessary
* Prepare and operate in alpha or beta-gamma radiation/contaminated controlled work areas including decommissioning activities
* Minimise and package radioactive materials
* Remove and transfer hazardous materials etc. to designated storage locations
* Carry out routine and non-routine operational activities including support to plant improvements and repairs as appropriate
* Undertake operational maintenance in compliance with the maintenance schedule
* Be required to undertake shift working as operational needs demand
* Undertake site surveillance tasks as appropriate
* Perform the responsibilities of Management Appointments relevant to the post
Aptitudes, skills and experience
* Basic skills in numeracy and literacy
* Basic computer skills
* Good general safety awareness
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team
* Ability to pay attention to detail and follow precise instructions
Full training will be provided, however experience in the following aspects would be an advantage for DFR Breeder:
* Size reduction and radioactive materials
* Glovebox/Cell operations
* Routine and non-routine operational activities to support plant improvements and repairs
* Crane and/or lifting appointments
* C moderate respirator working
* Flasking and/or bagging experience
* Mechanical background/interest
