Meridian Business Support are working with our fantastic client within the Public Services sector, they are looking for a Payroll Officer (12 Month Contract) to join the team based near the Swindon Office.
About the role
You will be responsible�for managing the monthly payroll activities and ensuring that accurate data is provided to third party payroll provider.
Key Accountabilities:�
  • Recording payroll data in the Access system
  • Maintains payroll processing system and records by gathering, calculating and inputting data.
  • Calculating overtime, salary increases and other payroll changes when managers or employees request this.
  • Answering and resolving payroll enquiries quickly and efficiently via email and telephone
  • Monthly checking of payroll for all Groups
  • Providing reports for schools to check monthly payroll
  • Producing reports on an adhoc basis
  • Sending out P45s and P60s
  • Adheres to payroll policies and procedures and complies with relevant laws
  • Identifies, investigates and resolves discrepancies in timesheet and payroll records
  • Maintaining compliant policies and procedures
  • Ensuring BACS payments are signed off and sent on schedule with Finance and HR Director
  • Calculating adjustments for new starters, leavers and job changes making sure the details entered are inputted correctly
  • Liaising with payroll contact to help calculate over payments�and underpayments for staff
  • Producing maternity schedules for employees, calculating the payments each month along with SMP
  • Calculating SSP and occupational sick pay
  • Processing pension opt outs/opt ins and retirement paperwork
About you:
  • Payroll experience
  • Payroll qualification or working towards
  • Familiarity with payroll software
  • Excellent calculation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Work to tight deadlines
  • ALT Safeguarding and Data Protection training (willingness to complete)
  • Knowledge of tax codes and procedures (desirable)
  • Must be able to pass DBS checks
This is a full time role working Monday to Friday 37 hours a week on a 12 Month contract, offering circa �28,000 - �35,000 plus great benefits including 31 days holiday + bank holidays.
