Planner Full turn key equipment project, A&P Tyne
Working within the Project Team that we have created for our latest endeavour we are looking for a Planner to ensure every part of the production process is meticulously organised and efficiently executed, as there is little room for error due to the unique nature of this project
In this role youll be working on a full turn-key equipment project including fabrication, outfitting, coating and commissioning. A project that is new to both A&P Tyne and our customer so your involvement in the role will be both challenging and visible. Could this be you?
Who are we?
A&P Group has a clear vision to build customer success.
We have earned an enviable reputation for delivering engineering strength across the commercial marine, major fabrication and defence sectors.
This latest endeavour at A&P Tyne is a key large scale newly designed customer project that will be worked for a number of years to come. Its an exciting first for the facility and the project is progressing at a pace.
And what will you do as a Planner at A&P?
In short, youll be responsible for managing complexity, ensuring smooth workflows, and adapting plans as needed to account for the unique nature of this project
As a key person in project meetings, youll ensure the team are informed on expected activity durations and resource allowance, as well as subsequent activities to allow teams to pre-plan
Creating detailed project timelines, youll do Project Scheduling and Timeline Development
There is no established production cycle so you will be building timelines from scratch, considering all stages of production, including design, procurement, manufacturing, and quality checks
Youll identify critical paths and bottlenecks to ensure deadlines are met. Because this is a unique job, delays can lead to substantial project overruns which are to be avoided
Assigning resources precisely and effectively youll avoid under- or over-utilisation
Materials need to be ordered for specific stages of the project so youll need to consider lead times, material specifications, and supplier reliability
Youll track and manage inventory ensuring that parts and materials are available when needed
Technical drawings, specifications, and job requirements need to fully grasped in relation to the technical aspects of the work to create realistic plans
Mid project youll be making changes to the overall plan without disrupting progress of the project
Coordinating quality inspections at critical points in the process youll flag potential risks such as supplier delays, equipment failures, or unexpected technical challenges, and build contingency plans to mitigate these risks
Since there is no historical production data, youll be proactive in forecasting potential problems and creating backup plans
Youll prepare cost estimates working with the finance and engineering teams as costs will vary greatly depending on complexity, materials and production time
Throughout the production process youll ensure the project stays within budget, and adjust plans if necessary to control costs.
Youll ensure your Buyer is checking that materials, components, or outsourced work are delivered on time and meet the required specifications
Youll track the process in real-time and if delays or issues arise, it will be up to you to quickly adjust the schedule to keep the project on track.
Youll provide progress reports to management and stakeholders daily
And what are we looking for?
Knowledge of fabrication, structural and production processes and engineering principles with qualifications in Engineering, Production Management, Construction or similar is vital
To control and steer projects, knowledge of Earned Value Management would be good
Project planning and organisational skills and working experience with relevant planning software and tools. We use Microsoft Project.
The ability to collaborate with stakeholders internally and externally
Why join us?
This is an opportunity to make a significant impact while working with and learning from a team of experts from the marine and structural engineering industries
Exciting projects providing opportunities for growth and advancement
Salary based on experience and what you will bring to the role.
Benefits including 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, 4% pension contribution, company health shield and death in service benefit
Due to the nature of what we do for some of the customers that we work with, some roles working for A&P are subject to security control restrictions. These restrictions mean that factors including your nationality, any previous nationalities you have held, and your place of birth may limit those roles you can perform with us.
You must also undergo a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check before your employment starts, which will include a basic DBS check.
