Platform Team Lead

We have an experienced and diverse team who are as ambitious about growing a successful company as we are about making an impact. In Product and Engineering we are a team of around 45 engineers and digital specialists of mixed disciplines and experience distributed across the UK and US. Our highest priority is to satisfy the customer through continuous delivery of the product so we focus on making small, incremental improvements in order to deliver high quality software, frequently. We re strong believers in the principles of agile, so we work in small cycles and regularly reflect on our processes making changes where necessary to improve outcomes and effectiveness. About the Role You will lead our Platform squad, Aurora. Aurora needs to be our 'enabling' team, delivering a solid platform, tooling and developer experience that empowers all the other teams to reach their maximum potential. You and your team will be responsible for ensuring that our platform and collective output meets our quality, reliability and security goals. You ll have an extensive opportunity to be involved early in our product s development, having the exposure to shape and steer the technical direction of our platform, tooling and infrastructure. Your first three months: Build trust with your squad and the greater Product and Engineering team. Coach and mentor the more junior members of the team, helping them to develop and improve their skills and abilities. Make sure that the lights stay on , and we deliver the best possible experience to our customers internally and externally. Increase reliability in our CI/CD pipelines. Increase observability over the platform. In months three to six: Build and maintain a happy, productive and high performing team. Work collaboratively to solve complicated problems with creative and scalable solutions. Ensure we re proactive in monitoring the health of our platform, are effective at detecting and resolving threats, defects and outages before they have any meaningful impact on our users. Collaborate over the squads to simplify aspects of our infrastructure. Work closely with other stakeholders, such as designers and product managers to capture requirements and distill problems into value focused deliverables. Promote, socialize, and evangelize the principles and practices of reliability engineering across the Product and Engineering organization. You have: Extensive and demonstrable experience working as an SRE building and maintaining cloud based scalable SAAS platforms targeting enterprise level customers. Experience acquiring information security standards such as SOC 2 and ISO27001, and managing large amounts of sensitive customer data. Excellent communication skills, and are able to work collaboratively and respectfully with other team members. A start-up mentality, are responsible, energetic, ambitious, adaptable and willing to jump in wherever you might be needed. Good judgment, and aren t afraid to make decisions and act with purpose and intention to progress Novata s goals. A pragmatic approach to problem solving, understanding which battles to pick when it comes to business objectives versus technical limitations. Great attention to detail, a no-compromise approach to quality and are committed to delivering the best experience possible to our users.
