University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Trust (UHBW) is seeking to appoint a Post-CCT Clinical Fellow in Medical Dermatology.

The post holder will undertake specialist clinics and will have responsibility for providing a medical dermatology service in conjunction with consultant colleagues of a team of 13 Consultants and an Associate Specialist.

This is a one-year post 1.0 WTE covering 10 PA's based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary covering 5 days per week Monday to Friday. There will be in-hours on-call commitments of approximately 1 in 10.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be working at the level of a newly qualified consultant with competence to deal with general medical dermatology in an unsupervised capacity, but with provision of supervision for tertiary referral level specialist work.

The main responsibility is to provide clinical advice and treatment within the specialty, under the leadership of senior colleagues and at times may require the post holder to collaborate with colleagues from other specialties within the Division of Medicine and wider Trust.

The post will include: out-patient clinics and on-call, including review of acute ward referrals; supervision of trainees on-call and in clinic; supervision of members of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team; attendance at relevant multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings and a regular biopsy list.

Out-patient clinics will include specialist biologics clinics in psoriasis, severe eczema, and hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) as well as the opportunity for severe urticaria, connective tissue disease, immunobullous and oral medicine clinics. The post-holder will also gain experience in the management of cutaneous lymphoma patients and patients with Graft versus Host Disease (GVHD).

Knowledge and Experience

  • Up-to-date Knowledge and experience of dermatology
  • Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to Dermatology
  • Broad range of IT skills

Skills and Abilities

  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in dermatology
  • Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
  • Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complement those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the trust service strategy.

Additional & Aptitudes

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, clinical colleagues, support staff, and other colleagues.
  • Good knowledge of, and ability to use spoken and written English.

Qualifications and Training

  • Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) in Dermatology Or
  • Eligible for specialist registration with six months of interview Or
  • Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or evidence of within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview
  • High academic qualifications e.g. MSc, MD or PhD
  • Evidence of management training and evidence of learning from it.
  • Ability to organise efficient and smooth running of specialist service.
  • Ability to cope with and effectively organise the workload of a consultant.
  • Ability to practice independently as a consultant.
  • Ability to work under pressure and cope with setbacks.
  • Ability to take on responsibility and show evidence of leadership.
  • Demonstration of knowledge of NHS management structures.
  • Management Experience.
