This role involves an interesting and diverse mix of PR-related activities including active PR pitching to generate great results for our clients as well as service and business development related functions. It will also provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight to ensure exceptional client service, account growth, and retention.The Role at BioStrata (a Supreme Group agency)PR Director - Responsibilities The role of a PR Director at BioStrata is to operate within the wider client services team, acting as a strategic lead across a number of different client accounts, and supporting and developing the operations of the PR department, as required.On larger accounts, the PR Director leads a team of channel specialists to build a comprehensive plan and deliver a wide remit of PR and paid media tasks. On smaller accounts, the PR Director is the primary PR resource and expert, creating the plan and delivering the executional elements, as required.Top-level job specification:As a PR Director at BioStrata, you will:Apply senior knowledge and expertise Act as the strategic PR lead on integrated marcomms accounts, working in coordination with the account management team to deliver PR-specific elements of the campaign.Support our account teams and clients to develop effective PR strategies (and where applicable integrated paid media plans) to meet their specific requirements and align with their commercial objectives.Manage and direct the implementation of PR plans and projects.Brainstorm and inject fresh ideas for campaigns and bring new ideas to the agency and our clients..Concept and develop high-quality, engaging, and creative PR content, such as news stories, trade articles, and case studies, on-time and on-budget, in conjunction with our account management and content team as appropriate.Write press releases and product award submissions, as required (this is also supported by our content team)Build and foster media relationshipsProactively seek to grow life science media knowledge and build and maintain those media relationships.Pitch press releases and feature ideas by phone or email to national, regional and trade journalists, across print, broadcast and online, to interest them in covering our clients’ stories.Respond to phone calls and emails from journalists.Arrange interviews and editorial meetings with key journalists for clients’ spokespeople – in person or over the phone – and facilitate these meetings where appropriate.Provide PR account direction and management Manage the monitoring of media coverage with supporting team members and report results to the wider team and clients.Manage against client budgets to deliver high-quality work on time and on budget.Media database management: Work with our media database manager to ensure it's up to date and systems and processes are adjusted and adhered to as required.Contribute to wider agency success (Supreme and BioStrata) Business development: Deliver proposals covering PR activity for new and existing clients. Support in wider agency pitches regarding life science PR components.Service development: Support the department director and wider group with ideation for PR service development, in the areas of integrated digital PR and event management, for example.Process and systems: Work to update and improve our processes and systems. Integrate with wider agency or newly identified tools and systems and support in their implementation.Travel: Attend client meetings, events, and industry conferences, as requiredIn more detail, a PR Director at BioStrata does the following:Develop PR and paid media strategies, proposals, and plans forCurrent clients (renewing/updating agreements, as well as providing additional services)*New clients, as required (see business development section)**In collaboration with the Account Directors on those accounts. Provide/oversee strategic PR and paid media services to clients e.g.Audits and recommendationsMessaging and Buyer Persona Workshops (likely in combination with AD on the account as it will cross over into strategic marketing work)PR plan development (inc. BioStrata mastergrids)Paid media plan developmentAttend major meetings and calls (kick-offs, H1, H2, quarterlies etc. as required)Will also be the main lead and client liaison for the management of the PR campaigns day-to-day (with other team members where applicable)If the sole PR Director on a smaller account, will attend all campaign related client calls and be included on some integrated AM calls where information sharing is beneficialProvide QA support on PR campaigns and content Content/copy/creative QA: includes checking for effective messaging against the buyer personas/target market, that the piece is of high-quality and effectively meets the objective of the clientQA around programme managementThe PR Director role is an subject matter expert in PR and media communications and is able to deliver and train the team on all aspects of:PR Strategy, messaging, and planning against key commercial objectivesPaid media strategy and planning against key commercial objectivesDigital PR strategy and integration with social mediaCampaign managementNews/announcement creation and distribution against target audiences and key messagingDelivery of executional elements such as media liaison, pitching, editorial placement, and managementEditorial brief creation and management with content/writing teamsMedia/spokespeople trainingPress conference//event managementPublisher managementClient budget management and reportingGroup Account Directors are responsible for the overall financial success of a client. The PR Director role on those accounts, is responsible for ensuring the work is executed is in line with that quoted:Capacity planning is managed by the CSD, GAD and the PR and Paid (Trade) Media Director. You will be supportive in this process and may build specific plans and requirements against key accounts.Feeding mechanisms of ideas and support into the Account management team (whether that is at Group Account Director or Senior Account Manager level)- who is ultimately responsible for the client satisfaction on that accountDeliver a stream of proactive ideas to clients as the subject matter expert to help improve and optimise their activities (including expanding the programme they have with us, but only if there will be a clear benefit to the client and we will be meeting a pressing need they have i.e. not to aggressively sell in services)New business proposals and pitchesThe PR Director role will report to the PR and Paid (Trade) Media Director (Clare Russell) and participate in weekly department team meetings and client services L10 meetings, led by the CSD..At the client team level, the PR Director may also be involved in those client team L10 meetings where they are activity managing programmes/campaigns.CompensationSalary: USD $65,000 - $90,000 / year (based on experience and performance)Why BioStrataOur mission is to use our world-class marketing and communications skills to help connect people and technology to drive scientific discovery and make the world a better place.
