Location: Uxbridge or Manchester (with regular travel between sites)
Salary: £70k - £100k

Are you an experienced professional in rail civils with a strong understanding of Tier One and Tier Two contractors? Do you have the strategic mindset to lead tendering efforts and ensure the focus is on the right opportunities? If so, we have an exciting leadership opportunity for you.

The Role:
We are seeking a Pre-Construction Director to lead and streamline the tender process for a leading contractor organisation. This role will involve overseeing a skilled team of a Bid Manager, two Estimators, and a Planner, helping to prioritise the right tenders and ensuring successful bids in the rail civils sector.

Key responsibilities include:


  • Tender Evaluation: Identifying and prioritising tender opportunities that align with the company's growth strategy, avoiding bids that don’t fit the business.
  • Team Leadership: Oversee and manage a talented team, ensuring effective coordination and collaboration during the pre-construction phase.
  • Market Insight: Leverage your knowledge of key industry players to strategically position the company for successful bids and framework wins.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Bid Manager on technical submissions while Operations will handle pricing, ensuring tenders are fully prepared and relevant.
  • Growth Strategy: Contribute to the company’s long-term goal of growth, ensuring the pre-construction efforts align with this vision.

The Ideal Candidate:
The successful candidate will have significant experience in the rail civils sector, with deep knowledge of Tier One and Tier Two contractors. You should have a solid track record in managing the pre-construction phase and winning key frameworks. Additionally, you will have the leadership skills to guide the existing team and foster collaboration across departments.

Essential Qualifications:


  • Strong experience in the rail civils industry.
  • Proven ability to assess and prioritise tenders based on strategic fit.
  • A solid network within the industry, with knowledge of major contractors and frameworks.
  • Leadership experience with a pre-construction team.

This role requires in-office work five days a week, with regular travel between Uxbridge and Manchester.
