Primary Teaching Assistant for ASC and SEMH Support



Position: Primary Teaching Assistant

Location: Westminster



Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Do you have a background in psychology or counselling and extensive experience with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? If so, we want to hear from you!



Key Responsibilities:




  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for students with ASC and SEMH needs.

  • Work with small groups to facilitate inclusive and supportive learning environments.

  • Implement de-escalation techniques and positive handling strategies.

  • Use trauma-informed approaches to support student well-being.

  • Engage with physical students comfortably and confidently.

  • Apply physical restraint when necessary, in accordance with school policies and training.



Essential Requirements:




  • Proven experience working with children with SEND, particularly ASC and SEMH.

  • Background in psychology or counselling.

  • Skilled in de-escalation and positive handling techniques.

  • Comfortable with physical interaction and restraint when required.

  • Trauma-informed approach to student support.

  • Ability to work effectively both 1:1 and in small group settings.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing attitude.



Desirable Qualifications:




  • Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, counselling, or a related field.

  • Training in physical restraint and de-escalation (e.g., Team-Teach, MAPA).
