With the appointment of a new Lead Bridge Engineer a multi-disciplinary international consultancy are looking for a Chartered Principal engineer to Technically lead the Bridge Design team and assist the Bridge Lead in delivering projects across Rail and Highways.
As a Principal Bridge Engineer you will need to show previous experience of holding a design lead position on either highways or Rail structures and ideally still be involved in calculations and detailed design using LUSAS. Chartership is essential in this position but this can be with the ICE or IStructE.
You will ideally be based in the consultancies London office working alongside the Bridge Lead but as a Principal Bridge Engineer you can still apply if you can be based in Warwick, Manchester or Motherwell.
Principal Bridge Engineer Responsibilities

  • Bridge analysis
  • Bridge assessments
  • Detailed design of new-build and refurbishment / strengthening schemes
  • Implementing Structural Health Monitoring systems
  • Health and safety documentation
  • Specifications and contract documents
  • Project management
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM regulations.
  • Supervise, mentor and develop team members from graduate engineers and technicians through to civil engineers
  • Represent the structures team in multi-disciplined project teams
  • Contribute to meetings with clients and other relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with relevant technical standards

Senior Bridge Engineer Requirements:

  • Chartered Engineer status (MICE, MIStructE or equivalent).
  • Bridge engineering experience (design of new and / or maintenance of existing bridges)
  • Strong understanding of structural behaviour and experience in analysis software such as LUSAS or MIDAS.
  • Good communication, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of current Health and Safety Legislation and CDM Regulations??
  • Ability to develop sustainable designs with buildability and maintenance in mind
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as Eurocodes, DMRB
  • Ability to work independently
