Job Title: Principal computational genetics scientist - Global Biopharmaceutical
Contract: 12 month contract, Hybrid
Location: Slough
Salary: �34.75 (PAYE), �47.31 (Umbrella)
SRG are working with a Global Biopharmaceutical company to help them find a Principal computational genetics scientist to join their busy team.
The Genetics group is small but dynamic group that develops and applies leading edge analytics and approaches to answer a diverse set of questions. Although situated in the Patient Solutions part of the organisation the group supports the complete R&D pipeline, ranging from target identification, clinical development and through to post-marketing. The Genetics group supports all sites and geographies
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Perform analysis of protein therapeutics using mass spectrometric technique
- Tackle scientific problems
- Keep accurate records and contribute to authorship of analytical aspects of regulatory submissions, technical procedures, protocols and reports
- Research specific analytical protocols (literature) and keep aware of latest analytical techniques
- Assay and instrument troubleshooting
- Ensure lab equipment is properly maintained and functioning properly; initiate appropriate repair and maintenance
- Ensure appropriate lab material and consumables availability
Candidate Requirements:
- Direct experience of analysing and using genetic data generated through multiple platforms and associated analytical approaches.
- Expert knowledge of statistics with specific experience in, and application of, statistical genetics.
- Advanced computational skills: proficiency in using R, python, SQL, bash and experience of working in a cloud environment.
- Ability to interpret and present data in the context of the question understudy.
- Good knowledge of the drug discovery process.
- Problem solving skills.
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience of the application of genetics and genetic approaches to drug discovery and development.
- Experience of using and querying population databases.
- Expertise in methods for functional interpretation of genomics data, such as variant and gene pathway mapping and enrichment.
- Ability to understand and integrate data from other sources (e.g. transcriptomics, proteomics).
- Expertise in the application of machine learning or artificial intelligence approaches.
- Relevant biology expertise
