A reputable RICS registered construction consultancy, specialising in project management, quantity surveying, and CDM services, is seeking an experienced Principal Designer to join their North West team.

Even though you are to be based out of the Manchester office, this role offers flexibility in location, with the option for remote working open for discussion, so you do not need to be based nearby.

The Principal Designer Role

The successful Principal Designer will work closely with various project teams, providing expert advice on design risk management and ensuring compliance with CDM regulations. This role involves managing pre-construction information, leading CDM workshops, and collaborating with architects and contractors to mitigate design-related risks. The Principal Designer will also be responsible for reviewing construction phase plans and ensuring health and safety standards are upheld throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities of the Principal Designer

  • Deliver Principal Designer services across a range of projects
  • Oversee design risk management and compliance with CDM 2015 regulations
  • Prepare pre-construction information (PCIs) and assist in the development of construction phase plans (CPPs)
  • Conduct design and safety reviews with project teams
  • Support the wider consultancy team in delivering high-quality project outcomes

The Principal Designer

  • 2 + years' experience as a CDM Advisor or Principal Designer
  • NEBOSH certification or recognised equivalent
  • Professional accreditation from the Association for Project Safety (AaPS, IMaPS), ideally CMaPS
  • Preferably CertIOSH (or TechIOSH, if actively working towards CertIOSH)
  • Design qualifications are desirable
  • A proactive approach to managing design risks and ensuring compliance with CDM regulations
