Job Title: Principal Ecologist

Salary: Up to �50,000

Location: Exeter/Southwest

A prominent multidisciplinary engineering and design consultancy, recognised globally, is seeking a candidate with substantial expertise in the field of ecology to assume the position of Principal Ecologist. This role will be hybrid, based in Exeter, and will also encompass responsibilities in Wales and the Southwest region.

Responsibilities of the Principal Ecologist

As the Principal Ecologist at this consultancy, you will work with various teams and stakeholders to manage infrastructure projects in the Southwest and Wales. Your duties will include planning and conducting field surveys, analysing survey data using methodologies like biodiversity net gain (BNG) and natural capital, and coordinating ecological mitigation strategies. You will also be responsible for writing and reviewing ecological reports and license applications, as well as providing guidance to team members.

Criteria for the Principal Ecologist

• BSc/MSc in ecology or related field (required)
• Extensive relevant experience
• Strong project management skills
• Expertise in botany (FISC level 4 preferred)
• Protected species survey licenses, such as a Bat license (preferred)
• Full UK driving license (required)
