This is about connecting communities and creating opportunities, so we’re ready for the 21st century and beyond. Accountabilities and ResponsibilitiesAs the Principal Engineer for Earth Structures & Geotechnical, you will be leading a team of Geotechnical Engineering professionals who are deployed as Discipline / Design Engineers, Asset Engineers and Assurance Engineers across TfL, primarily on Earth Structures but also on Geotechnical elements of projects. You will represent TfL Engineering as Technical Authority and Subject Matter Expert for Earth Structures and Geotechnical Engineering in TfL and when engaging with suppliers, customers, industry bodies and external agencies. You will report into the Head of Technical Discipline for Earth Structures & Geotechnical. Your key accountabilities and responsibilities will include: Support the Head of Technical Discipline – Earth Structures & Geotechnical in Discipline engineering and asset management activities.Safeguarding the safety, integrity, reliability and efficiency of Earth Structures assets at all stages in the asset life cycle through engagement in planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance and assessment activitieProvide input into the authorship and updating of Earth Structures standards and proceduresProviding engineering input in support of TfL operations, strategy, projects and asset managementUndertaking Risk based design and construction assurance related to Earth Structures & Geotechnical projectsProviding technical and people leadership to the capability and ensuring that competency of the capability is up to high industry standardsWorking closely with industry, internal and external stakeholders to introduce relevant innovations and best practice in TfL.Role RequirementsYou will be a chartered engineer with the UK Engineering Council or recognised equivalent, ideally a Fellow or a Member working towards Fellowship of the Institution of Civil Engineers or another relevant UK or internationally recognised engineering institution. You will have expert knowledge, skills and experience of: Providing technical leadership in a lead technical authority and or lead delivery role on complex geotechnical projects within capital programmes and or operations with emphasis on whole life cycle benefitsRisk based design assurance on multidisciplinary projects and modifications to operational Earth Structures assetsLegislation, technical standards and industry best practice related to the design, construction, maintenance and operation of complex Earth Structures infrastructure Design, construction, operation, maintenance and asset management of Earth Structures that include the assessment of the structural performance of long-life ageing structures with limited as-built information Design and project management delivery frameworks that are applied to support and ensure the consistent and efficient delivery of projects and programmesIdentifying, managing and mitigating engineering related risks to a project and assets with a focus on the safety, reliability, quality, function and performance of operational assets and systems.Building relationships with both internal and external stakeholders at senior management level to enable successful delivery of engineering solutions.This position requires you to be able to work in a matrix framework. You need to demonstrate and build on your credibility, competence and technical excellence in the development, approval and implementation of robust solutions through collaborative working, trust and proactive management of your direct team and customers’ expectations.The more teams you’ve led, the better.
