This pivotal role will focus on developing and delivering a wide range of highway and transport infrastructure projects, all aimed at improving mobility and promoting sustainable travel within Bedfordshire.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and contribute towards developing the design and delivery for a wide range of highway improvement and traffic engineering schemes in both urban and rural settings.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, commercial teams, and construction units to plan and implement schemes from start to finish within budget and programme.
  • Consult with a range of internal and external stakeholders at all stages of scheme development.
  • Ensure that relevant national and local standards are applied to deliver cost-effective and high-quality solutions.
  • Mentor and guide trainee and graduate engineers within the team.
Job Requirements:
  • Proven track record in delivering highways and transport design projects as part of a professional engineering team.
  • Working knowledge of Design Manual for Roads, Manual for Streets, and Specifications for Highway Works.
  • Experience with active travel projects and an understanding of Local Transport Note 1/20.
  • Proficiency in design software, including Autodesk packages Civils 3D and AutoCAD.
  • Site-based highways experience for an understanding of buildability, traffic management, and construction programming (desirable).
  • A relevant Degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification, or a Foundation Degree/HNC/HND with significant post-qualification experience.
  • Active pursuit of Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with the Institution of Civil Engineers or an equivalent professional body.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proactive, team-oriented approach.
  • Ability to prioritise workload efficiently and work with minimal supervision.
