Principal Mechanical Engineer

Astute's Nuclear team is partnering with a bespoke engineering provider who specialise in offering solutions to the nuclear and defence sectors. They are currently looking to recruit a Principle Mechanical Engineer for its Chorley site.

The Principle Mechanical Engineer will actively lead design teams, ensuring safe, compliant, and high-quality engineering solutions. The role comes with a salary of up to �70,000 per annum (or �60 an hour, if contractor).

Responsibilities and duties
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer you will:

• Lead and supervise multidisciplinary engineering design teams, providing technical direction and oversight.
• Encourage a collaborative work environment that emphasises continuous learning and improvement.
• Support the Engineering Manager by monitoring engineering activities to meet cost, schedule, quality, and safety standards.
• Coordinate project schedules, resources, and budgets, and adjust project plans as necessary to meet timelines and cost targets.
• Identify, assess, and address technical risks, escalating issues as needed.
• Conduct design reviews to ensure engineering deliverables meet applicable regulations and quality standards.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

• Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent Level 6 qualification) in an engineering discipline.
• Proven leadership in a collaborative engineering environment.
• Deep knowledge of relevant safety, health, and environmental legislation (e.g., Machinery Directive, LOLER, PUWER, CDM).
