We are looking for an experienced Microbial Fermentation Principal Scientist to join a highly innovative organisation tasked with bringing the UK at the forefront of innovation across a wide range of scientific sectors including biotech, agri-tech, pharma and biopharma. Joining an expanding team, the main responsibility for the Principal Scientist will be to provide upstream microbial fermentation expertise, leading complex projects and managing stakeholders. You would contribute to the team's strategy and consult customers on various projects.

To be successful in this role, you would need a strong microbial or molecular background, ideally working within therapeutic biologics.

Responsibilities:

• Application of your broad scientific knowledge to projects and client programs
• To assist the development and analytical characterisation of Biologics processes to provide proof of successful process development/optimisation.
• To identify new technical developments and trends, translating these into building blocks for opportunities.
• To utilise own expert knowledge to inform the technology strategy at technology team level, translating this into practice through the creation of deliverable plans to achieve technology team objectives.
• To build, influence and exploit a network of relevant (inter)national external stakeholders, customers, partners, research organisations and authorities

Requirements:

• Be educated to Degree / Master's Degree / PhD level (or equivalent) in a Scientific / Engineering discipline plus significant industrial experience at an expert / senior level.
• Have experience of leading large cross-function technical development projects.
• Will possess significant, technical expertise in biologics & bioprocessing, upstream and/or downstream processing, and/or analytical characterisation as well as compelling evidence of complex technical problem solving.
• Have significant, practical experience of different expression systems for therapeutic biologics.
