FX and cross-border payments are often complex and expensive, especially when operating in emerging markets. Crown Agents Bank (CAB) wraps its deep and trusted relationships and strength of network around innovative digital capabilities, and cross-border transaction banking solutions to enable fintech, corporates, governments, development organisations and banks to move money to, from, and across often hard-to-reach markets. We are offering an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced Principal Enterprise Technology Architect to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in software development, particularly within the Payments and Foreign Exchange (FX) domain. They will bring expertise in creating and implementing cloud-native strategies and architectures, and a proven track record of aligning technical strategy with overarching business strategies. This role presents a unique chance for hands-on experience in modernising and rearchitecting Payments, FX, and Core banking platforms, shaping the technical approach, ensuring alignment with business goals, and driving the innovation needed to maintain our competitive edge. As a senior member of the Engineering and Architecture team, you will collaborate with senior leadership and other key stakeholders to understand the business strategy and create an overarching enterprise architecture that aligns with the business objectives. Define and communicate the architectural vision, strategy, and Payment and FX platforms roadmap. Drive the modernisation and re-architecture of FX, Payments, and Core banking platforms for cloud-native environments to scale the business. Develop technology principles, standards, patterns, and guardrails that can be leveraged to design and build scalable and resilient Payments and FX solutions. Provide technical oversight and guidance across multiple complex projects, ensuring architectural best practices and standards are followed. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering, operations, and compliance, to ensure alignment of technical solutions with business objectives. Constantly evaluate, design, and refresh the technology architecture based on the business strategy. Define and maintain relevant reference architectures and roadmaps. Document as-is architecture, develop target-state architecture, and perform map and gap analysis. Drive the adoption of modern technologies and methodologies to enhance system performance, security, and scalability. Identify potential risks in the architecture and propose mitigation strategies. Engage with senior leadership and stakeholders to communicate architectural decisions, technical risks, and opportunities. Proven experience in software architecture and leading, modernizing, and rearchitecting FX, Payments, and Core banking platforms. Deep understanding of payment processing, FX systems, and financial protocols (e.g., SWIFT, SEPA, ACH). Proven experience in technology leadership across strategy, enterprise, data, and technical architecture. Defined architecture principles, patterns, and guardrails to guide design and development of solution architecture. Knowledge of modern software development practices, such as Test-Driven Development (TDD), CI/CD, DevSecOps, SRE, etc. Proficiency in cloud technologies, such as AWS, GCP, and Azure, at an advanced level. Strong knowledge of microservices architecture, API design, and enterprise integration patterns. Familiarity with security standards and practices (e.g., PCI DSS, GDPR). Proven track record of leading and inspiring high-performing technical teams, demonstrating exceptional leadership skills. Knowledge of machine learning and AI applications in financial services.
