Location of post: Leprino Foods, Magheralin Role Purpose: Responsible for developing optimising and improving Manufacturing Processes and Utilities on site, to enhance efficiency, productivity, quality and safety. Collaborating with cross functional Teams to analyse existing processes, and using Process Engineering knowledge and structured LEAN problem solving techniques to identify areas for improvement, and to implement effective solutions to enhance operational performance. Support the Operations & Project teams with new equipment introduction, process improvement programmes and engineering changes through effective Management of Change and documentation (URS, Functional Specification, Design Review, Testing FAT/SAT and Validation) Accountable to: Engineering Manager Designated Deputy: N/A Responsibilities & Measures of Success: Relationship Development Operate as an active member of the Engineering and Services Teams , supporting, colleagues and team performance to deliver on our business objectives. Attend team meetings and contribute positively and constructively to these meetings. Build positive relationships at all levels with other departments, utilising these positive relationships to assist delivery of results Build an excellent working relationship with the Production team to ensure operational opportunities are fully understood and activities actioned to implement and embed improvement. Work closely with the CI specialist & site automation engineers to effectively diagnose process issues and identify solutions Build and maintain strong relationships with Site Management, establishing two way communication and accurate provision of information to support the efficient running and continuous improvement of the site. Ensure relationships are developed on the basis of One Leprino, One Team moto, with strong and effective communication, where agreement on work plans, activities and actions to be completed are clear and defined as part of a regular routine. Build effective relationships with external 3rd parties to gain expert knowledge on equipment and processes that can impact department performance. Operational Excellence Drive a positive culture of continuous improvement that engages the whole whey team, supported by excellent communication. Provide support to the maintenance and operational departments in identifying solutions to remedy ongoing process issues Use LEAN / Six Sigma tools (e.g. A3s, and Value Stream Mapping) to identify opportunities and drive improvements. Develop the use of focus and Short Interval Control boards to engage the team and support problem solving, utilising effective communication strategies to ensure all stakeholders are informed and aligned on projects and progress. Own the development and delivery of Project Charters and AFEs where appropriate for identified Process Improvements Effectively keep stakeholders informed on project progress and effectively manage project delivery to time and budget. Lead project initiatives to drive process system improvements and communicate to the wider team Interrogation of the automated process system to obtain data / set up instruments locally to collect process data and interpret, summarise and present results Identification of improvement opportunities through robust data capture and analysis Validation and verification of existing process systems Work as part of a larger projects team and compile data from existing process systems to present findings, highlight opportunities and provide innovative ideas Assist with the commissioning, verification and validation of new systems Push solutions with a high countermeasure strength. Observe, act and immediately report any issues that may pose a threat to a safe working environment. Proactively encourage the reporting of SIRs and Good Saves within the department. To identify and report formally with immediate effect any statutory or critical plant failures that will give rise to a health & safety risk to employees, contractors or visitors to the Plant. Ensure that the circumstances of any accidents or incidents are recorded in detail, reported via specified methods and that any supporting documentation is completed promptly. Ensure that Permit to Work systems is consistently utilised for all work deemed hazardous e.g. hot work, breaking into lines, etc. Perform Point Of Work Risk Assessment using STAR books to help in risk assessing tasks to be completed Implement Stop, Think, Act where appropriate. Actively drive improvement in all aspects of product quality and plant housekeeping, including the use of control charts. Ensuring effective and appropriate escalation of issues, timely corrective action and excellent communication to key stakeholders. Improve Right First Time performance through the reduction of variability and identification and elimination of food safety & quality issues using recognised problem solving and investigation tools e.g. Root Cause Analysis & A3s. Ensure that food safety & quality checks are built into PSOPs which will identify food safety & quality issues at the earliest stage possible in the process. Standardise, automate and ensure increased visibility around both CIP validation and other cleaning / sanitisation tasks, not covered by our OT process control systems. Process Engineer PERSON SPECIFICATION Applicants are required to explain how they demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours specified: No health issues likely to preclude employment in the dairy industry BEng degree in Chemical Engineering MEng degree in Chemical Engineering IEng/CEng Accredited Engineer Relevant Project Management Qualification APMQ/PRINCE2 Previous relevant experience in a manufacturing environment working as a Process Engineer Experience in leading improvement projects Experience in coaching and developing colleagues in technical and non-technical skills Previous experience working with PLCs and automated control systems Experience gained in a Food Manufacturing environment Working knowledge of manufacturing operations and processes Detailed knowledge of manufacturing equipment and of safety & legislative requirements in the maintenance and repair of equipment Knowledge of Lean Processes Knowledge of Reliability Centred Maintenance philosophy Knowledge of Condition Based Maintenance and advanced maintenance techniques Proven track record of executing engineering improvement projects in a High Care Environment Excellent communication skills -verbal and non-verbal Detail orientated Evidence of utilising Lean Problem Solving tools 5Ys, A3s etc Qualities & Behaviours Self motivated Team player Goal orientated Calm and focussed under pressure Adaptable to short and long term change Additional Requirements or Circumstances Able to operate outside core hours upon request Availability to travel between sites Skills: Process Engineering engineer Manufacturing
