Bennett and Game are currently working a leading contractor who provides engineering service and process technologies to the water and wastewater industries. They are centrally located in the Bedford area, where their fabrication workshop and engineering design office is located.
The successful Project Engineer will be working under the Project Managers to help and assist in the delivery of projects. The Project Engineer will be working from their office in Bedford but will be required to travel to site from time to time.
Project Engineer Position Overview
Material Take-offs: Perform material take-offs from fabrication drawings, site General Arrangements (GAs), valve and instrument schedules, and standard specifications.
Procurement and Tendering: Handle tendering packages, obtain quotations, and raise purchase orders for items from suppliers as required by Project Managers to manage project expenditure.
Site Visits: Visit sites as needed to assess job requirements.
Order Follow-up: Monitor the status of orders to ensure timely delivery of materials to the site, supporting the production schedule, manufacturing lead times, and site activities.
Product Knowledge: Develop a detailed working knowledge of all standard products.
Commercial Support: Support the commercial manager with forecasting and contract administration.
Health & Safety Documentation: Assist Project Managers in the preparation of health and safety documentation, including but not limited to:
Risk Assessments / Method Statements
Construction Phase Plans
Traffic Management Plans
Site Health & Safety (H&S) files
Permits to Work
Compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act (HASWA)
Compliance with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM)
Project Records Management: Ensure all project records are up to date and accessible within project files.
Project Engineer Position Requirements
Minimum of 2 years in a mechanical engineering or workshop environment.
Proficient in interpreting fabrication drawings, site General Arrangements (GAs), valve and instrument schedules, and standard specifications.
Strong negotiation skills with a strategic approach to managing both national and local suppliers.
Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with team members, clients, and suppliers.
Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and solve problems efficiently.
