About the role

 

Are you passionate about quality and looking to make a significant impact in the food industry? Kerry is seeking a dedicated and experienced Quality Control Lead to join our team in Portbury. In this role, you’ll oversee quality assurance processes, ensure compliance with industry standards, and lead a team committed to maintaining the highest quality of our products.

What will I be doing?

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Laboratory, ensuring this is in accordance with good laboratory practices (GLP), safety, and hygiene requirements.
  • Maintain and develop the Laboratory Quality System and deliver Continuous Improvement.
  • Develop/implement/maintain systems to monitor and improve Laboratory efficiency and enable effective resource planning.
  • Ensure compliance with site requirements.
  • Manage the maintenance, repair, calibration, and procurement of laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Investigate and propose improved methods of testing which result in a cost, ease, speed, safety, quality, accuracy improvement.
  • Review non-conforming product.
  • Be the key contact for external laboratories.
  • Contribute to the general management, decision making, and activity of the Quality Department

 

Managerial Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and maintain qualified personnel within the QC department through training, development, communication, and accountability.
  • Recruitment activities, graduate and employee onboarding, employee engagement, training, and talent & leadership processes within the QC department
  • Assist FSQ Manager/Lead in setting, reviewing, and achieving department budget.
  • Utilize resources effectively to meet needs of the business in a timely and efficient manner.

 

Other responsibilities

 

  • Support development and continuous improvement of Food Safety and Quality Management System
  • Assist with site audits/visits/technical reviews for customers, regulatory bodies/competent authorities, and Group/Global Internal Audit, including supporting on commercial visits.
  • Support in other FSQ and site initiatives as required.

  • Experienced in the effective operation of a fast-paced laboratory or similar setting.
  • Understands appropriate safety standards for laboratory operation.

  • Understands how to develop and implement a process system to improve operational performance.
  • Drive and motivation.
  • Organisation and prioritisation skills.
  • Critical thinking & problem-solving skills.
  • Experienced people leader, hence able to motivate and influence others (team members, peers, and senior management).
  • Able to work with other departments and build productive relationships.
  • Finisher completer with an eye for detail.
  • Well-developed communication skills – able to present written and verbal reports that are understood by the target audience.
  • Proven ability to work in a technical or laboratory role.

 

Qualifications

 

  • HND or degree in science, or extensive experience in a laboratory environment.
  • IT literate, good knowledge of Microsoft suite of products – advantageous to have SAP experience.
  • Advantageous – leadership/management qualification.
