About the role The Quality Engineering Manager will have a good understanding of the testing approaches and challenges encountered on projects and be familiar with a wide range of functional and non-functional testing techniques. They will be aware of the latest thinking, methods, and tools in the industry with regards to testing and be capable of applying these in the context of the project/assignment.
The Quality Engineering Manager takes overall responsibility for managing a test stage during a project. They will provide leadership for the test stage, including defining the Test Strategy and Test Planning, managing it to completion within agreed timescales and budgets, and to a level of quality that meets or exceeds the clients expectations.
They will be capable of thinking innovatively about how best to test the solution and what may be required to facilitate testing. They will change/adjust the approach to testing when necessary to ensure it is appropriate to the context and so that continuous improvement can be achieved.
The Quality Engineering Manager will use advanced level appreciation of the architecture and key components of IT solutions (including GUI, Operating systems, databases computer hardware & input devices, networks & security) to inform the testing strategy, approach and plans and guide the team based on this understanding.
As part of the Senior Delivery Team the Quality Engineering Manager will be a champion both internally and externally of Roqs QE Ecosystem, QE Principles, our values and supporting business growth. They will be focused on their continuous self-development, supporting others self-development/upskilling and work in collaboration across teams.
Definition of the High-Level Test Approach for Programmes/Projects, including advising on the test phases needed to support the Programme/Project
Definition and maintenance of the Test Strategy documents
Provide input to the Programme/Project management on the needs of the test project
Provide estimates, with a good level of accuracy, of the time required to complete test activities
Identify, document, and manage all significant Programme/Project Risks and issues regarding testing
Define and maintain Test Plan documents
Manage Test progress, including assigning work, monitoring progress, and providing feedback
Collect and report metrics, progress, and statistics against the test activity
Work collaboratively with all parties that interface with testing
Defect Management, including triaging, analysis, and reporting
Take overall responsibility for the creation of test data including the manipulation of relational database data to feed automated test scripts when necessary
Drive the development and maintenance of automation frameworks and scripts
Look for opportunities and value-adds to improve the approach/test process
Be an advocate for Testing and Quality across the lifecycle including a focus on defect prevention
Oversee Non-Functional testing including Performance as required by the project
Provide management, direction and mentoring for the test team
Work with our internal Career Support Managers in supporting individuals career aspirations, objectives through coaching, feedback, and mentoring
Champion knowledge sharing and collaboration across the business and externally
Internal and external Key Stakeholder management providing regular updates to clients, Account Managers and Leadership team
Support sales pipeline by identifying new opportunities, value-adds and continuous improvements within existing clients and participating in pre-sales engagements
Any other duties deemed necessary by the company
What we look for Passionate
Experience in a senior testing position, including leading a team on multiple projects
Experience of managing, influencing, and negotiating with Key Stakeholders and third parties
Excellence
Experience across a broad range of Testing phases, including UAT, OAT and Live Proving
Extensive experience of defining and implementing waterfall, agile and hybrid/custom testing approaches
Strong understanding of the benefits of test Engineering and appreciation of the different toolsets available to support automation and performance
A strong appreciation of service-oriented architecture and interfaces and ability to manage the interaction with APIs/interfaces using automated testing tools, e.g., SOAP-UI, Postman, and bespoke coded test automation frameworks
Commitment
Understanding the needs/mindset of a range of roles from key senior business stakeholders through to technical individuals
Experience with implementing and configuring a variety of leading testing tools and understanding how best to exploit them
Experience of overseeing Non-Functional testing including Performance testing, and leading Engineers engaged in Non-Functional testing

Desirable
ISTQB Certified Tester Advance Level Test Manager or Chartered Status
Proven ability to augment and support project and programme managers through release management and planning, schedule adherence, stakeholder management and reporting
Experience across multiple industries and sectors such as Healthcare, Financial Services and Government
Previous experience of working within a consultancy or testing services provider
Good working knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP Hybris, MS Dynamic 365, Oracle Cloud, SAP S 4/HANA, Sage Business Cloud X3
