Overview:

First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Quantity Surveyor on behalf of one of our clients.

To be responsible for the delivery of a professional and quality quantity surveyor service on painting contracts/projects to help achieve the best outcome for projects.

Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel however all candidates will be given due consideration.

Duties and Responsibilities for the Quantity Surveyor:

Attend the estimating handover meeting for newly won projects and to ensure all information is presented, discussed and actioned as required.
To obtain and understand the contract information and communicate relevant information to the contracts team.
Remeasure works at the outset if work is on a re-measurable basis.
Take active role in placing bona fide subcontracts at the right time, if required.
To manage costs in line with budgets, including target work.
To price variations to existing contracts including making due allowance for time / cost aspects where appropriate and saving/keeping electronic file information up to date.
To obtain written instructions for all variations.
To re-measure sites/drawings/work where required, including regular site visits to pick up all variations and ensure correct value of works carried out is captured.
Attend team meetings as per schedule of meetings and as required, including weekly contract review meetings.
Submit valuations and final account in line with dates agreed providing substantiation of contract & variation works carried out & agree certified amounts with the client.
Respond to payless notices and reductions made to amounts that have been claimed at an early stage.
Carry out and submit to the commercial manager internal valuations valued to the cost period end dates.
Keeping Commercial Manager updated on progress and issues arising.
Monitor progress of snags as part of the team.
To promote best practice in maintaining high levels of Customer Service.
Advise operations team where improvements in operational aspects, records and the like may be beneficial to the outcome for the project and for the company.
Follow up all commercial issues weekly.
Undertake such other duties that are required from time to time commensurate with this position.
To develop the business in all regions.
Endeavour to obtain the earliest payments of amounts due.
Agree the best possible payment terms for suppliers and clients.
Liaison with internal accounts department, management and other external bodies.
Liaison with the Client to keep them up to date with relevant information as required.
Skills and Qualifications for the Quantity Surveyor:

Relevant experience of painting projects.
Knowledge of and ability to action the aspects of the QS role.
Gain understanding of key aspects of the contract requirements.
Communication skills.
Customer care.
Information technology skills.
Professional telephone manner.
Business development.
