This allows us to provide expert services quickly and effectively to customers across the whole country, with multiple projects always in operation around the UK.

Safety and efficiency are absolute priorities. From small and simple projects to more complex and impressive structures across the UK, we inspect, assess, fine-tune, and monitor every single element of our scaffolding systems, as well as their applications and environments.

Now 20 years old we have grown to an £18m turnover business with over 180 operatives. as we seek to expand our commercial department, we are looking to recruit a Head of our Commercial team.

About the role:

Burflex Scaffolding are looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join the team. This is a broad all round role taking ownership and management of a number of projects. The successful candidate will report directly to the Commercial Manager.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Assessing, reviewing and mitigating commercial and contractual risks associated with the contract.
  • Prepare applications for payment on a monthly basis in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Monitor performance of commercial activities using key metrics and prepare reports for the Head of Commercial.
  • Ensure prompt payments of outstanding sums.
  • Undertake site visits on a regular basis to resolve disputes whilst maintaining relationships with customers.
  • Ensure all commercial activities are carried out in compliance with procedures and external legislation governing business operations.
  • Facilitate regular two-way discussions and reviews with the Operations team, ensuring the team has full knowledge of the completion and financial status of the projects.
  • Establish and administer a regime of effective risk and opportunity management to reduce commercial exposure.
  • Supports the ongoing development and improvement of commercial management process.
  • Provides accurate and timely variation orders and ensure that these are given written instruction from the customer before proceeding.

About you:


  • Proven experience of working in the Construction section.
  • The ability to communicate, influence and challenge at all levels to deliver results.
  • Holds a full UK driving licence.
  • Experience of managing a portfolio of projects.
  • Experience of working with a main contractor or large subcontractor.
  • Experience of commercial processes within large scale projects.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills; able to communicate at all levels and across the business.
  • Be pro-active and with a can-do attitude and able to handle tasks and drive results without close supervision.
  • A team player who actively supports others around them but also with the ability to work independently.
  • Identifies opportunities for improving contract processes and systems.
