Job Overview:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join an established�house builder in Shrewsbury. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing costs and contracts, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. This role is available on a temporary to permanent basis, offering an excellent opportunity to establish a long-term career with a growing company.



Key Responsibilities:




  • Oversee and manage the cost control and financial aspects of housing projects from inception through to completion.

  • Prepare and monitor budgets, forecasts, and cost reports to ensure profitability and cost efficiency.

  • Conduct regular site visits to assess progress, quality, and compliance with budget and contract terms.

  • Negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and manage contractual obligations.

  • Ensure all project costs, including labour, materials, and overheads, are accurately tracked and reported.

  • Assist with procurement activities, including the preparation and management of tender documents.

  • Provide advice on legal, regulatory, and contractual issues affecting the project.

  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and internal teams to ensure effective communication and project delivery.

  • Prepare and submit applications for payment and manage cash flow on projects.

  • Take ownership of project variations, claims, and disputes, ensuring they are handled professionally and in line with company policy.



Skills and Experience Required:




  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally within the house building or residential construction sector.

  • A strong understanding of construction contracts, cost estimation, and project financial management.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to manage relationships with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders.

  • A high level of attention to detail and strong analytical skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

  • Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., Excel, estimating software, or similar).

  • CSCS card and other relevant qualifications are desirable.
