We are currently recruiting an experienced Quarry Section Manager to join and lead our friendly operations team at our Tarmac Killerby Quarry, Hambleton, North Yorkshire. This role is easily accessible from Middlesbrough, Richmond, Northallerton, Boroughbridge, Harrogate Wetherby, York and the surrounding areas.

Main Responsibilities
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Quarry Section Manager will manage and be accountable for all quarrying operations on the site. Safety and operational standards are the fundamentals of the role with cost control, people management, delivery to customer needs and performance improvement being key. Managing plant compliance with business policies and procedures and ensuring that legislative compliance is also a strong aspect of the role.
As Quarry Section Manager you will also be responsible for:
Managing, coaching and developing a highly skilled, fit for purpose and extremely motivated team to ensure business continuity and reduce business risk
Leading change and continuous improvement initiatives, whilst maintaining disciplined stock management processes and producing operational reports
Understand different methods of winning and extracting raw material
Knowledge of techniques employed to load extracted minerals and viable options to transport extracted minerals and its applications within the industry, including feeding, crushing, screening, washing, separation, classification and beneficiation techniques
Understanding Quarry Regulations 1999 enabling a Reg 8.1c appointment
All aspects of budgetary control for all quarrying operations
Maintaining and implementing existing and new, Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments and training your staff on the same
Managing and overseeing the safe operation of the plant and the planned preventative maintenance of all the sites equipment fixed and mobile with responsibility for your own safety and that of colleagues and business partners
Reporting and investigating any unsafe or hazardous working practices
Issuing of safety briefings and toolbox talks to your operational team
Managing proactively both mandatory training and developmental training of your staff and keep an up-to-date training matrix
Collating and report on monthly performance KPI for your business unit for the Area Operations Managing and driving operational performance through KPIs
Ensuring appropriate Contractor and visitor inductions are carried out in line with company procedures
Key Stakeholders you will liaise with in the role of Quarry Section Manager :
Operations Manager - Health & Safety team - Procurement and support teams - National Logistics team - Area Operations teams - Area Commercial teams - Area HR Manager - Industry Bodies Customers
This role is Monday to Friday, but flexibility is key to this role with the expectation of being available to meet our plants operational and customer needs as well.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for the role of Quarry Section Manager will have experience in Quarrying operations or a similar working environment and possess a good understanding of Quarry Regulations 1999 as a Regulation 8.1(c) appointment we will consider 8.1(d).
Suitable candidates for the role of Quarry Section Manager will have:
Diploma in Quarry Technology/FdSc Extractives Technology This can be attained whilst in the role
SHE NVQ Level 4/QCF Level 6
Highly experienced in Quarrying Operations/Asphalt operations
IOSH/NEBOSH would be advantageous
Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems
Working knowledge of production processes, H&S and Environmental policies
Good IT skills including a high level of competence with SAP and the Microsoft packages Word, Excel and PowerPoint, this would be advantageous
Ability to multitask and manage change
