Regional Manager - Liquid Waste/Tankers

To proactively lead the tanker operation within their own region whilst working collaborating with the second regional manager (South) to implement the strategic direction in respect of the Tanker fleet supported by the General Manager for the Region. Grow existing profitability by improving productivity across the existing tanker operations.
Identify areas of expansion through operating areas, continue to maximise all internal stakeholder opportunities by promoting the service across the Group and build transparent metrics for the business to operate efficiently and grow organically.
The role also requires the ability to drive through technical innovations, driver and planner training, legal governance, KPI and Management Information, fleet specification and planning and routing developments.

Tankers are the fastest growing business unit in our Specialist Solutions Division, as such with our acquisitions strategy and continued organic growth we expect to reach 100 vehicles (from 60) in c18 24 months.
The role has 4 direct reports and a team of 30.
Through actively managing and working in partnership with the Regional General Manager, Operations Director and Commercial Director and Head of Compliance and Development you will explore new business opportunities.
This role will be accountable for local budgets in conjunction with the Site Managers and be responsible for building and developing a highly motivated and performing team.
This role is a regional role and will involve the use of many personal skills such as relationship management, negotiation and people management. There is a need for innovative thinking and is solution driven.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the operational performance of the regional tanker fleet, while supporting the UK-wide tanker network to ensure seamless operations. Align operational strategies with the company's growth objectives, working closely with the General Manager and Commercial Director to support organic expansion.
Provide effective leadership, issuing clear work instructions, and closely monitoring the performance of all Tanker Depots to ensure high operational standards.
Continuously review, innovate, and implement improvements across service functions, including vehicle specifications, depot parking arrangements, and the management of the sub-contractor database.
Take ownership of vehicle management, ensuring close collaboration with the fleet team and full compliance with transportation and environmental regulations.
Manage the financial performance of tanker depots, including the Profit & Loss (P&L) account, actively working to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, enhance margins, and achieve set budgetary targets.
Demonstrate strong organizational skills, effectively managing multiple priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and aligning resources to achieve business objectives.
Mentor and support the team to optimize performance, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability to meet key performance objectives.
Champion a "Customer First" mindset, ensuring a commitment to exceptional service through effective collaboration with Sales, Account Management, and Customer Service teams.
Maintain a steadfast focus on Health & Safety as the top priority across the operational area, ensuring strict adherence to all company policies and standards.

Essential:
National & International CPC certification
Business/Leadership qualifications
Proven track record of managing P&L to drive growth
Experience in multi-modal transport operations
Expertise in tenders, costings, and project management
Knowledge of tanker and industrial cleaning equipment
Strong commercial acumen
Highly numerate, analytical, and data-driven
Desirable:
Safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH)
Experience in the waste or transport industries
Proficiency with route planning software (e.g., Route Monkey, DPS)
Familiarity with tanker operations and chemical compatibility
Understanding of transport and DGSA legislation
