Job Description Key responsibilities The post holder will be expected to function as an independent practitioner/clinical expert by virtue of their in-depth knowledge and experience. They will assist in leading & managing a team of staff as delegated by the General Manager The post holder will initiate & manage projects that will deliver enhanced resident care & inform best practice. This to ensure that Cramond Residence’s aims and objectives are incorporated into all aspects of care for residents To provide nursing and personal care to residents and promote their abilities. To provide end of life care residents who can no longer benefit from active medical intervention The post holder is responsible for ordering supplies within agreed budget & in accordance with Cramond Residence financial policies Has a responsibility for ensuring cost effective staff utilisation in line with workload requirements Will be required to supervise qualified and unqualified staff on a day to day basis as delegated by Line Manager Main Duties Observe Cramond Residence Policies & procedures at all times Take responsibility for ensuring personal immunisation programme is up to date. Support & manage staff within the unit ensuring that resident’s needs are assessed, care planned, implemented & evaluated, & that there is consultation & involvement of residents & agreed family/others. Responsible for ensuring the highest quality of care to residents & their families by implementing policies & ensuring staff adhere to policies & approved process Responsible for conducting monthly clinical audits according to a monthly schedule and manage the unit team on a daily basis including induction and onboarding, performance management, 1 st line absence management Lead, motivate, develop & retain the team utilising mentorship, objective setting and enabling educational needs of team to be met Contribute to, and support, the provision of clinical practice for pre-registration students, & appropriate post – registration nurses to fulfil requirements and ensure that appropriate educational opportunities are provided To effectively and efficiently manage the use of resources ensuring that appropriate skill mix is maintained at all times. Ensure ongoing personal development needs and professional education. Be aware of current research within Care of the Elderly & Palliative care & disseminate research based evidence within units. Responsible for maintaining resident’s records within agreed standards. Ability to organise own work load with regard to assessing resident’s needs, planning, implementation and evaluation of a plan of care which is evidenced based utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender, and cultural background and ensuring involvement of resident, family, and significant others if this is desired by the resident Legal and Ethical Practice and lead within the legal & ethical framework as established by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and the Care standards, Health & Safety legislation and other relevant guidance (Care Inspectorate) to ensure residents interests & wellbeing is met Work within Cramond Residence policies & procedures & guidelines Ensure that the team adheres to the policies Assist in the review of the policies as requested Empowering residents to take responsibility for their health, wellbeing & future lifestyle by practicing in an open & transparent manner thereby ensuring residents have the relevant information to participate in decisions about their care The post holder is responsible for maintaining information systems They will comply with the Data Protection Act, Caldicott Guidelines & local policies regarding confidentiality & access to medical records. Leadership & Management Lead and take charge of the department for the management of the daily responsibilities, including work allocation, deployment & supervision of staff to ensure the smooth running of the unit Assist members of the team in planning, priority setting & decision making. This includes establishing clear, concise achievable & measurable objectives to meet resident’s needs. Be a role model for the team by representing the values & beliefs of the Nursing profession as well as the aims & objectives of Cramond Residence Provide encouragement, support & motivation to the team. Demonstrate the ability to function competently both as a leader & a member of the multi-disciplinary team & understand and acknowledge the role & function of other members of the team To take account of the role, skills & competence of staff when delegating work Demonstrate clear understanding of organisational goals & reflect these in setting unit objectives Demonstrate a systemic, flexible & innovative approach to problem solving and decision making Participate in recruitment and selection process when requested Implement approved induction programme for all new staff to the unit Demonstrate an understanding of equal opportunity policies and organisational recruitment policies Support staff in establishing personal development plans Three-monthly supervision of staff in the unit Clinical Governance Select & implement evidence based nursing interventions to meet the individual needs of resident’s using National Guidance Take responsibility for personal continuing professional development in order to enhance knowledge, skills and values needed for safe effective practice Maintain records of personal & staff professional development Responsible for Preceptorship and mentorship of qualified staff, student nurses & care assistants undertaking SVQ & other training Prepare & deliver formal and informal training sessions & support others in providing education for resident’s, relatives & the nursing team Utilise appropriate risk assessment tools in order to identify actual & potential risks & implement appropriate interventions & report outcome to the General Manager Work within other departments if required Take on additional responsibility as required e.g.: link Nurse for dignity, continence, wound care, Dementia & Train the trainer for moving & handling Hours of work 40.25 hours per week (80.5 hours over a two week rolling shift rotation, working three days one week, four days the next week) 07:30 - 20:00 with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break and two unpaid 15 minute breaks Job Types: Full-time, Permanent Expected hours: 40.25 per week Benefits: Company pension Free parking Schedule: 12 hour shift Day shift Weekend availability Licence/Certification: NMC Pin (required)
