Samuel Frank is recruiting for an experienced Controls Engineer with recent/strong TIA Portal programming knowledge to join a specialist engineering company. The successful Controls Engineer could have worked in any industry if the Siemens TIA Portal knowledge is strong!



Key aspects of the Controls Engineer role include;




  • Leading software activities for mainly material handing / conveyor type projects

  • Controls Engineer will have the opportunity to progress to Lead Engineer role

  • Some site based commissioning – 50/50 split between home and being out on customer sites – this is likely to be mainly UK sites with some international travel – site visits are typically 2-3 weeks in duration

  • Company has a culture of pushing the boundaries of what systems and technology can do

  • Contribute to the development and/or review of the project FDS

  • Design system architectures and software components using Siemens TIA Portal

  • Knowledge of SCL (Structured Control Language) for data management and loops is required

  • Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and software validation

  • Oversee system integration, upgrades and commissioning

  • Experience with IP-based architectures, ProfiNet, ProfiBus, Asi and other industrial network technologies.

  • Understanding of design, build and project delivery methods

  • Experience with high level languages would be advantageous or a desire to learn (e.g. Python, C++, PHP, Java)

  • When working away, any hours worked over 40/week will be classed as overtime and paid at x1.25 for hours worked Monday-Friday and x1.5 for hours worked on weekends.

  • Working hours are typically 8:15-5pm Monday-Thursday and 8:15-2pm on Fridays or you can choose to work 8:15-4:30pm Monday-Friday.

  • Department manager estimates earning between £5-10k per year in overtime is realistic given the work schedule

  • All applicants need to be based in the UK and be able to travel internationally freely without restrictions.
