The strategic purpose of the Knowledge team is to ensure that all those involved in delivering legal advice to clients have access to the knowledge and information required to deliver a technically excellent, efficient service.The Research Services team are a core part of the Knowledge function.  The team around the globe provides our professionals with the legal, corporate and financial information they need to advise our clients.  Members of the team work together in a strong and collaborative international network to provide a high quality research service. The UK team has responsibility for ensuring that our lawyers have access to the right research tools for legal, news and international business research.  We provide expert research to the practice and business services teams.  We support lawyers to carry out independent research effectively and efficiently.  We manage a variety of global news and current awareness services, ensuring that our lawyers have access to essential commercial and competitive intelligence at the right time.Role Overview This is a leadership role within our UK Research Services team, responsible for ensuring that the UK team based in two locations runs successfully to deliver:A high quality legal and business research enquiry service to UK lawyers and globally, working with international colleagues across the global network.A range of advanced research skills training on research tools and techniques.Day-to-day maintenance of the firm's physical resources; ensuring availability of online resources.Provision of a current awareness service across legal information and regulatory change, competitor and business intelligence.Key Responsibilities/ AccountabilitiesDay-to-day management of the UK Research Services team, ensuring the team provides a high quality service to the firm's professionals across a number of areas.   Implementation of service enhancements and process changes as appropriate.Supervision and management of the team in London and Birmingham, including the appraisal and recruitment processes, identification of team training needs, supporting individual professional development and encouraging knowledge sharing within the team.Developing and maintaining relationships with lawyers and business services professionals at all levels of the business to promote services and stay aware of changing business needs; encouraging the team to do the same.Contributing to departmental strategy and service development, particularly in the context of the global Research Services team and ensuring the UK aligns and collaborates with international colleagues.Participating in decision-making around research resources, their evaluation, trial and marketing their use around the firm.Ensuring that the team can resource service development or enhancement projects across a number of areas.Duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location or services.Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location or services.All members of the firm participate in our Responsible Business program.Person Specification The Candidate The successful candidate will have experience of leading a team or staff supervision, with strong people skills and a collaborative outlook.  The role requires a focus on providing superb customer service with the ability to lead a high-performing team in a pressurised environment.Qualifications and Training Recognised library or information education is desirable.Experience of working in a law firm research environment.Staff supervision / team management experience.Advanced IT skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).In-depth knowledge of a range of international legal and business research databases and resources, their functionality and content.Expert search experience; the ability to advise and mentor on research searching strategies.Experience of providing current awareness and alerting services in a professional services environment.Experience of library resources and library management systems (ideally SirsiDynix Workflows).General AttributesStrong communication and people skills, with an ability to lead positively and with energy.Resilient, with the ability to work in a pressurised environment.Confidence to interact professionally with a broad range of people, including lawyers and professionals within our Business Team at varying levels and across multiple locations.A strong customer service focus and high client care standards, with the ability to instil this in others.Adaptable, innovative and forward thinking;
