School Caretaker Vacancy - 1 Year Contract

Empowering Learning is seeking an experienced School Caretaker for a full-time position at a primary school in Tameside. This role starts in September 2024 and is contracted for one year.

Position Details:

Job Title: School Caretaker
Location: Primary School, Tameside
Contract: Full-time, 1-year fixed term
Salary: £1,750 - £2,100 per month
Start Date: September 2024Role Overview: The successful candidate will take pride in the appearance and functionality of the school and will work strategically to manage staff and maintain health and safety standards. Essential experience includes general DIY, cleaning, and maintenance. Effective communication skills with pupils, parents, staff, visitors, and contractors are also crucial. An NVQ Level 3 in a related subject (such as plumbing, electrics, or joinery) or equivalent experience is required.

Purpose of the Role: To oversee all aspects of maintenance and health and safety for the school's buildings and grounds, ensuring a safe environment for staff, pupils, and visitors. This includes maintenance, security, and facilities management.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance & Improvement:

Lead and improve the performance and quality of the site maintenance service.
Plan and implement an effective repair and maintenance service.
Collaborate with the Business Manager to secure cost-effective contracts with suppliers.
Build constructive relationships with contractors, ensuring adherence to health and safety/safeguarding procedures.
Monitor contract performance and report to the Business Manager.
Operate heating, cooling, and lighting systems to ensure optimal conditions.Supervision: 7. Supervise premises and cleaning staff, including determining staffing levels, recruitment, workload organisation, training, and performance management.

Standard Duties:

Implement school policies and procedures, including those related to customer care, finance, data protection, ICT, health & safety, anti-bullying, and safeguarding/child protection.
Proactively approach health and safety, mitigating hazards and contributing to school security.
Engage in professional development to improve personal and team performance.
Participate in relevant meetings.
Perform additional duties as required.Health & Safety: 8. Ensure compliance with health and safety policies, procedures, and COSHH regulations. 9. Regularly update risk assessments and communicate action plans to staff. 10. Maintain and service equipment in line with health and safety legislation, keeping accurate records.
