Head of Science - Burgess Hill

We are excited to announce an opportunity for a dynamic and highly effective educator to join the Middle Leadership team as the Head of Science. This role involves leading the Science Curriculum delivery and assessment across both Primary and Secondary Phases at this multi-site school. As the Subject Lead, you will develop, oversee, and monitor the Science Department, ensuring a broad and balanced curriculum for their students. The position includes a 0.8 teaching timetable with 0.2 allocated for PPA and Management duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver and model high-quality Science lessons.
  • Enhance students' access to a broad and balanced curriculum.
  • Develop, manage, and evaluate the Science Department across all school sites.
  • Collaborate with other specialist agencies to contribute to the development of the school.
  • Regularly monitor and support Science across all sites.

Requirements:

  • Passionate about Science and committed to outstanding education, especially for children with challenging behaviour.
  • Understanding of complex needs and experience in social and emotional health difficulties.
  • Outstanding teaching practitioner who can inspire students and colleagues.
  • Creative in designing and delivering a rigorous, academic curriculum.
  • Belief in every student's ability to succeed.
  • Flexibility, strategic thinking, and resilience.
  • Excellent organisational and ICT skills.
  • Enthusiasm for Science and the ability to share this passion with students and the team.
  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to teach additional subjects.
  • Experience in personalised learning and delivering engaging, creative, and practical lessons.
  • Commitment to achieving outstanding student outcomes.
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments effectively.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development for self and team.

Qualifications:

  • QTS/QTLS
  • First Degree or Certificate of Education
  • Significant experience with Special Educational Needs, preferably SEMH.
  • Relevant and recent professional development.
  • Experience contributing to successful Ofsted outcomes.
