Job Title: Scientist

Department: Technical Services
Reports To: Scientist / Laboratory Manager

Contract Details:

  • Two positions available:
    • Maternity cover hire (12 months)
    • Seconded cover (12 months)
  • Lab-based roles within the Technical Services team.
  • Requires comfort with paperwork, documentation, reports, and presentations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Pay: 14.20
  • Location: Dundee

Main Purpose of Job:

Provide support to the Technical Services department by conducting assays and experiments, reporting results under supervision, and adhering to best practices and quality standards. Align work with the expectations set by the line manager and the business.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Perform testing according to protocols or procedures while maintaining good laboratory practices.
  • Conduct routine and innovative tasks/experiments as directed by established protocols.
  • Utilise analytical instruments for various tests and procedures.
  • Compile and maintain records in compliance with good laboratory practices and design control procedures.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of work.
  • Understand and apply design control procedures and processes.
  • Summarise data, contribute to result analysis, and assist in formulating conclusions.
  • May take on additional responsibilities such as Health & Safety Representative, Fire Marshall, or First Aider.
  • Carry out other duties as requested by the line or department manager.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable corporate and divisional policies.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Further or higher education qualification in a technical or scientific discipline.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Word and Excel for data analysis and presentation.
  • Relevant practical experience, including university setting or placement.
  • Knowledge of immunoassays, antibodies, and antigens.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience in preparing buffers/assays and using analysers.
  • Background in Biomedical, Biochemistry, Biological, or Chemistry fields.
